Note the 6:30 start time! For this month's meetup, everyone is invited to come a half-hour earlier than usual. Hiyaw Gebreyohannes, the chef and founder of Taste of Ethiopia, will be our guest speaker, and he'll be bringing us a free food sampling. The regular "social" portion of the meetup will start at 7 as usual.
The Whole Foods store in Lake Grove has an eating area with lots of chairs and tables, and the food bar is vegan-friendly (vegan items are clearly labeled, ingredients are listed). You pay by the weight of your food. My total usually comes to $10-11.
As with all VLI meetups, please follow VLI's policy that "at VLI meetups, the food is always vegan, and everyone is treated with kindness." (In other words, we expect everyone to bring only vegan fare to the table. Even if you or your guests don't think of yourselves as "vegan.")
We'll be hanging out in the far end of the eating area, near the children's play area, at least until 8:30 (the store closes at 10, so many of us take off by 9 to go shopping). Be aware that as it gets later in the evening, the food bar may run out of the more popular items.
NOTE: Whole Foods offers durable bowls, but not durable utensils. So I encourage you to bring your own utensils to avoid needing to take their plastic ones. I bring my own water bottle, too.
Hope to see you there!
Please update your RSVP status by 12 pm Monday, because seating is limited, and I'll be printing nametags for everyone who says they're coming, and we need a headcount for the tasting, too. If you need to reach me, call or text[masked]-5108.
About Hiyaw: (from tasteofethiopia.com) "My earliest food memories are forever linked to the contents of my childhood lunchbox, my mom's aromatic home-cooked Ethiopian dishes. These lunchbox memories inspired my dream to bring the wonderful flavors of Ethiopian culture to be enjoyed by everyone."
