Dinner at The Curry Club

We've arranged with the Curry Club to have a fixed-price vegan dinner the first Sunday of each month. Dinner includes appetizer, several entrees, rice, bread, and dessert.

The price is $20 for all you care to eat, which you pay at the restaurant. This includes tax and tip, and if you can afford to leave more for the tip, the restaurant workers appreciate it very much.

Menu (subject to change, but this is the plan...)

- appetizers: aloo tikki chat & dosas

- main dishes: saag, yellow dal, mushroom masala, tofu tikka masala

- plain rice, coconut rice, whole wheat roti

- dessert: kheer* (rice pudding)

*soy-free; made with almond milk

Beverages (wine, beer, juice, tea) will add to your cost. The restaurant normally charges $8 per glass of wine, but for us the cost is $5.


Will it be family style or buffet? Depends on how many RSVP. More than 40, and it may be buffet. 

Also: if the table configuration is conducive, we'll do a "seat-swapping" partway through the evening. This is to shuffle the conversation groups, and allow you to visit with more people. Only half of us actually change places. If you'd prefer to stay put, just notify me beforehand (in your RSVP or by email) and I'll save you one of those seats.

As with all VLI meetups, please follow VLI's policy that "the food is always vegan, and everyone is treated with kindness." (In other words, we expect everyone to order only vegan fare. Even if you or your guests don't think of yourselves as "vegan.")

    Great company and stimulating conversation -- nothing like healthy civil discourse.
    Good use of the RATTLE to keep the discussions to a more comfortable level -- we were starting to sound like "carnivores" -- lol.
    Yes, more vegetables, please -- I did like the potato thing and the mushroom thing -- sorry, newbie here.
    Loved the table trivia, too -- although, I had no clue except for one question which I will research more thoroughly for my own edification.
    Thanks Jennifer, once again, a success due to your skills.
    BTW, I may be in the minority but I hope they find a different "easy to prepare" dessert.

      Thanks Jennifer -- I enjoyed everything except the Tofu thing -- I really like my veggies and brown rice, of course. That "mushroom masala" was excellent, too -- could have eaten much more of it -- but did not want to over-indulge.

      oops -- hit the enter key, too soon -- lol -- dessert -- I love fresh fruit but I don't mind being a bit decadent, too -- Indian Cuisine boasts some very decadent sugary desserts that is capable of sending one into a diabetic coma -- not to laugh at that, though -- but quite delicious -- I wouldn't mind the Rice desert if it was more like "Flan" -- a real pudding rather than soup -- lol -- thanks for asking for my input, much appreciated.

    My only regret is not having enough time to visit with all of you. :) If we have this many attendees next time, the restaurant says they'll seat us in the main room, which means we can look forward to better acoustics. (It may also mean that dinner will be served buffet style. I know that some prefer dinner being served family-style, but when we get up near 40 diners, buffet becomes more efficient. I will, however, make *sure* that the seating arrangement doesn't leave anyone trapped in their seat.) Also in July: we're due to get brown rice. And I'll ask to add vegetable jhalfrezi back to the menu. (Not sure if we can get two kinds of rice, but I'll ask.) And less oil in general. Any other feedback? Thanks again to everyone for coming tonight!
