Dinner at Whole Foods Market (Jericho)

-posted by Maryann Z.-

It's time for a Nassau County, Whole Foods Market, monthly meet up.

The Whole Foods store in Jericho has an eating area with tables that seat six (6), and the food bar is vegan-friendly (vegan items are clearly labeled, ingredients are listed).  You pay by the weight of your food. My total usually comes to $10-11.

As with all Vegan Long Island (VLI) meetups, please bring only vegan fare to the table. (Our policy is that "at VLI meetups, the food is always vegan, and everyone is treated with kindness." In other words, we expect everyone to enjoy a vegan meal together. Even if you or your guests don't think of yourselves as "vegan.")

We'll be occupying a few booths somewhere in the eating area at the front of the store, at least until 7:30. (The store closes at 10.) Be aware that as it gets later in the evening, the food bar may run out of more popular items.

NOTE: Whole Foods offers durable bowls, but not durable utensils. So I encourage you to bring your own utensils to avoid needing to take their plastic ones. I bring my own water bottle, too.

Hope to see you there!

Please update your RSVP status by 12 pm Monday, because seating is limited, and I'll be bringing nametags for everyone who says they're coming.  If you need to reach me, call or text[masked]-1704.

As usual, a great the event w/great people. :-) Looking at the upcoming Curry Club event, methinks we could have an event @ the Hicksville location or at one of the nearby Indian places??

Yes! I would LOVE for others to step up and organize future events. Here's a link to where I describe my expectations— http://www.meetup.com...]

I'll add that I want VLI organizers to model equanimity in the face of conflict, should it arise. (Which I hope never would—but if it does, I ask that hosts make every effort to defuse the conflict, not escalate it. I have found that nonviolent communication techniques can help a lot. I recommend watching "Basics of NVC": http://www.youtube.co...).

I was totally going to blow this MU off because I was at home and didn't feel like making the effort to drive 30 min to WF, but I did go and boy am I glad I did! I met the most wonderful, intelligent, stimulating people. I've always maintained that VLI has the best people. Always a pleasure.

I'm really sorry I had to cancel at the last minute, I got very sick. I have diabetes and my sugar bottomed out.
A vegan diet would hopefully remedy these types of problems.
I will make it to the meetup at whole foods in Lake Grove on the 16th, it's closer to where I live.

John, I hope you feel better. I don't have diabetes myself, but I have read Neal Barnard's book on diabetes treatment & reversal. Have you seen it?

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Diet is very important in Diabetes as you know. Hopefully will get to meet you at future meetups.

This stinks, we just went to leave for meet-up and there is a nail in my tire! This is the 2nd time we've attempted to attend this Whole Foods meet-up and looks like we won't be making it again tonight. We would normally just go with my boyfriend, but he's working late tonight and was going to meet us there at 6:30 or so. So sorry for the short notice, but obviously couldn't have known this would happen. Hope next time we will make it for real.

I'm glad to know you're okay, Heidi. (And sorry about the hassle of a flat tire, ugh.)

I have been a vegan for 16 years and still love it. I am new to V L.I.but what a pleasure it is to have so many vegan meet ups to choose from. It is fortifying and uplifting to sit, talk and eat with other vegans where ever they are on their on they journey. I learn something new every time I attend.

I would take whichever E/W route works for you, NState, Ex'way and Jericho Tpk. ALL intersect Rt. 106/107 w'in a mile of one another, and WF between Rt. 25 J'Tpk and NState/Ex'way on EAST side of Rt 106/107. Both 1010 and 880 on AM have VERY reg. traffic reports

I'll be coming from the city so any help in visualizing favorable (to me of course) traffic would be appreciated! :)
