Potluck Picnic and Kickball in the Park

-posted by Amanda L.-

Let's enjoy the great outdoors over some yummy vegan food and a friendly game of kickball at Belmont Lake State Park.

The park has a large picnic area with grills. Bring an appetite and vegan dish of your choice to add to the potluck - just keep in mind that we'll be playing kickball first, so a hot dish may get cold by the time we eat. There are several playing fields where we'll start up a kickball game (taking team name suggestions below).

For those who want to explore the park afterward, paddle boat rentals are available ($10 per hour), as well as 7.6 miles of trails throughout the park for hiking, walking or biking. Dogs are allowed, but not technically in the picnic area. There are also two playgrounds.

For more information on the park, visit http://www.nysparks.com/parks/88/details.aspx.

The more the merrier so bring your veg-curious family members and friends.

Parking is $8 per vehicle, or free with the Empire Pass. The picnic area is to the right of the parking lot.

***In case you need to reach me the day of the event, my cell is[masked]-9884. Also, I will have water bottles, plates and utensils, but if you have your own, bring them so we can cut down on our carbon footprint :-)

Have a fun team name suggestion? Write it below and we'll pick the best two. Here are some ideas:

• Vegan Ballers

• Banana Shakers

• Potato Heads

• Cabbage Patch

What about drinks, cups, plates? Should everyone bring their own plate and utensils that they can bring home and wash? And drinks? Bring our own drinks, maybe?

    1 · September 14, 2013

    • Nancy Protasewicz S.

Is anyone bringing their kids? My "+1" is thinking of bringing his son, but wants to make sure there will be other kids there. His son is 6.

Now I am disappointed, I was going to run for captain of my team. I have Little League experience which I intended to use, to lead my team to victory.

Hi! I have to be honest. Am a seasonal vegan. Meaning there is times when I do consume animals products. Am I still welcome? I wont get offend if the answer is no :-)

    September 11, 2013

    • Amanda L.

Hi Emmanuel, come and join the fun! All are welcome (just make sure whatever you bring is vegan). See you there :-)

Hi I was wondering if we can start a list with what dishes people are planning to bring..this way we don't have an overage of any one type of dish and not enough of something else...

    1 · September 11, 2013

    • Matt

Good idea. This way we'll have more variety and less chance of having 12 noodle casseroles. :-)

      September 11, 2013

    • Amanda L.

Sure, feel free to post the dish you'll be bringing to give others a heads up.

      September 11, 2013

  • Patti W.

oh and i do have 5 sterno racks and trays if people need them for hot food, I live right down the block from the park so it is not inconvenient for me to offer this :-)

    1 · September 11, 2013

  • anna

Is there a list of what people are bringing?

    September 10, 2013

    • Amanda L.

There's no official list. Feel free to bring whatever dish you'd like (just keep in mind that we'll be eating after the game). With more than 25 people attending, I'm sure we'll have plenty to choose from :-)

I'm a "maybe." I teach classes at Michael's on Sunday afternoons. Depends if my class has enough sign-ups or not. I'll be sure to update my RSVP either way. Thanks for organizing this, Amanda! :)
