Dinner at The Curry Club

-posted by Jennifer G.-

The first Sunday of each month is a fixed-price vegan dinner at the Curry Club. It's $20 for all you care to eat, which you pay at the restaurant. This includes tax and a $2 tip. If you can afford to leave more for the tip, the restaurant workers appreciate it very much.

Reminder: at VLI meetups, "the food is always vegan, and everyone is treated with kindness." (In other words, please order only vegan fare. Even if you don't think of yourself as "vegan" right now.)

And please read "To ensure harmonious meetups" to help make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.

RSVP deadline: 24 hrs before (6 PM Saturday). We need an accurate headcount. Thanks! RSVP/no show policy is here: www.meetup.com/Vegan-Long-Island/about/.

Menu (subject to change...)

- appetizer: salad and papadums with chutney

- main dishes: tofu saag, yellow dal, vegetable jhalfrezi, aloo gobi, channa masala

- whole wheat roti and brown rice

- dessert TBA: either kheer (rice pudding) or fresh fruit

Beverages (wine, beer, juice, tea) are not included in the price and will add to your cost. For instance, wine is $5 per glass.

Will it be family style or buffet? Depends on how many diners. More than 40, and it may be buffet.

Looking forward to next month at the Curry Club. I really didn't like all of the fried food. Not a fan of the eggplant. Loved the soup! Liked the wine. Loved the company! Missed Jo. I thought she would be there. Thank you Max for visiting our side of the room. Thanks Jen for organizing this again,

By the way, at dinner, I mentioned a scrambled tofu recipe to some of the folks at my table. The recipe is on this page: http://www.meetup.com/Vegan-Long-Island/events/112260922/

BTW, I missed Julie. Her name was on the list, but I don't think she was there. Julie, if you're out there, hope to see you soon! :)

Are you sure? I don't remember seeing her name on the list, or among the nametags. Maybe it was another RSVP list you saw?

She may have changed her RSVP ahead of the event. Her name was definitely on there earlier in the week. Always more events coming up. :)

I hope: everyone enjoyed the company and conversation as much as I did! I wish: we'd gotten the salad I thought we were going to get, rather than the deep-fried appetizers (but the garlic-tomato soup and rice pudding were especially delicious, I thought). I'm confident that both Chef Jimmy and Maitre D' Kulwant understand now that I would like to leave the deep-fried items off our meetup dinner menu, and Kulwant apologized for misunderstanding our conversation the day before. What did folks think about the baby eggplant dish, with the coconut milk-based sauce? That was new—I wonder how many folks would like to have that again?

Thanks to you all for the feedback! I will see about getting dosas back (Ivy, I think you like the dosas too?), and the eggplant again, along with the saag, dal, and mixed vegetables.

Yes, salad, soup and dosas would be my ideal start to the meal. The papri chat is good too, but it's very dough-y, so I'd prefer to have other lighter fare to balance it. :)
