Dinner & Dessert at Rajbhog, a new Indian restaurant (in Hicksville)

-posted by Hayley, aka Vegan Goddess-

This is a new vegetarian Indian restaurant/café that has lots of vegan items including some delicious vegan desserts. Their prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are good. They have unusual appetizers, dosas, thalis (for only $5.00), and more.

They’re giving a FREE dessert to anyone who shows up and orders dinner.

Any questions, feel free to ask me (Vegan Goddess).

P.S. This dinner is posted to other meetup groups as well—so members of those groups may be joining us.

P.P.S. This is a fast food Indian place like many of them in Hicksville. It has tables but no table service as you order the food from the case and they heat it and then you bring it to your table. The appetizers and thalis are already made (cafeteria style) and it's heated for you. The dosas are made to order. The food is good for the price, but not as good as a regular sit down restaurant with table service. But, the food is good. If someone is expecting a fancy sit down perfect restaurant with fancy prices, this isn't it. It's more like a veggie-vegan Taco Bell, McDonalds or Burger King. The food is good & cheap, but it's not 5 star gourmet. Also, the 2 ladies who are usually behind the counter speak English and so far have been VERY good at telling me what's vegan and what's not. For the desserts, the ingredients are actually listed, so you can see which ones you can get. I don't know the names of any of them, ;) but there's several that are vegan.

Hey guys, it was good to see you today. I guess I should try to get there earlier next time! If ya haven't gotten around to it yet, please do take the Vegan Long Island Survey. It really helps VLI, and completing it will give you a shot at winning a pair of tickets to the Animal Rights & Vegan Education Conference w/catered vegan lunch! It only takes 4-8 minutes. Sorry but no idea. They take it in the back and then it's brought out hot with magic. ;)

It's probably a microwave but you might want to call to check.

Hope to see you all again and we should start with desserts!

I imagine it is, since it is "fast food", but you may want to call them and ask to be sure.
There's a cute little South Indian place in the city called Punjabi run by Sikhs. It's frequented mostly by taxi drivers, and it's also the cheapest vegan food I've ever seen, anywhere. Cheaper even than Rajbhog. $3 for 2 "entrees" plus rice. An extra buck for roti, 75 cents for a samosa. Insane. How is it so cheap? For starters, they have a *row* of microwaves heating up the food in styrofoam containers - which can't be a great idea. You can actually see it in this photo : https://www.google.com...
Not sure if Rajbhog uses the same cost-cutting measures but it would make sense financially.
