Dear Vegan Long Island members,

How are you? I have been without Internet connection since the storm. It was frustrating to be cut off from everyone, though I did get some news via texts & calls.

I know several of you suffered severe damage or total loss of your homes. I can't imagine the shock and grief you must be going through.

If there is any way that this meetup group can help, please use this message board to put the word out there.

The loss of life has been terrible. I was deeply saddened to learn that in Brooklyn, a falling tree killed Jessie Streich-Kest and her friend Jacob Vogelman. Jessie, an animal advocate, was not a VLI member, but if you knew her or Jacob, please accept my sincere condolences.

This storm destroyed so much, and I know it will take time for many of you to recover from the losses. I hope this meetup group can be a source of support for you, perhaps even a morale-booster when you need a lift. My heart goes out to everyone who is struggling right now in the aftermath. Hang in there. You're not alone. And as part of Vegan Long Island, you belong to an especially compassionate community that will want to help.

Please use this thread to let us know how you're doing.

Big, big hugs,
A former member

Oh Karen, that's horrible. Just awful. I'm relieved to know both of you & the furry ones are okay, but oh my god. I'm just so sorry.

Can people bring stuff on Wednesday that you might need?

I'm in Queens -- walking distance from Queens College. QC gym is housing about 600 people. If you know anybody there who needs anything let me know.
