The National Museum of Animals & Society (NMAS) proudly presents

"WE ANIMALS: The Photography of Jo-Anne McArthur” curated by karen fiorito interpretative text by dr. keri cronin (brock university) April 5 - May 3, 2014

“WE ANIMALS” explores our complicated bond with the animal kingdom by looking through Jo-Anne McArthur’s lens as she journeys through a myriad of countries and encounters – from bear bile farms in Asia to the watery world of marine park captivity. In juxtaposition, the exhibition shines a light on those individuals, animals and places that bring hope and rejuvenation. All photography sales benefit the National Museum of Animals & Society and We Animals.

Sunday, April 6, 2014 ANIMALS ASIA PRESENTATION BY RAY ZHU 1 - 2:15 pm │ Free and open to the public Join Ray Zhu of Animals Asia for a visual presentation (includes a short documentary screening) on their current campaign to end Bear Bile Farming and offer sanctuary to bears in China and Vietnam. PHOTOGRAPHY EXCURSION w/ JO-ANNE 2:30 pm - 9:00 pm │ $115 members │ $125 non-members Spend the day with Jo-Anne and visit one of her favorite places on earth: Farm Sanctuary's Animal Acres in Acton, California! Bring your camera and learn Jo-Anne's tips for snapping shots of adorable cows, pigs, goats, horses, and other rescued farm animals. Enjoy this magical time of the day (late afternoon/early evening) that few others get to enjoy at the sanctuary. Afterwards, wind down the day with a group dinner at a vegan restaurant.

Your donation includes transportation to and from the sanctuary, admission to the sanctuary, and dinner. Bring your own snacks, water, sunscreen, hat, and camera equipment. Limit: 10 people. Proceeds benefit the museum, We Animals, and Farm Sanctuary.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION + PHOTOGRAPHER The We Animals project was created by award-winning photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur who has been documenting the plight of animals on all seven continents for over ten years. Her documentary project, We Animals, is internationally celebrated and over one hundred animal organizations, among them Igualdad Animal, Sea Shepherd and the Jane Goodall Institute, have benefited from her photography. Many organizations continue to work closely with Jo-Anne on campaigns and investigations. Recent awards and accolades include the 2013 Compassion for Animals Award; one of CBC's Top 50 Champions of Change; Farm Sanctuary's 2010 "Friend of Farm Animals" award; HuffPost WOMEN's "Top 10 Women trying to change the world", and one of 20 activists featured in the book The Next Eco Warrior. Jo-Anne is the subject of Canadian film maker Liz Marshall's celebrated documentary The Ghosts In Our Machine and her first book, also entitled We Animals, was published by Lantern Books in 2013. Her work has been featured in magazines such as Elle Canada, National Geographic Traveler, Photolife, Sotokoto, Point of View, Alternatives Journal, Canadian Dimension and PDN.
