I watched a Factory Farming undercover video three years ago and decided immediately to go Veg. After that I watched Earthlings and I still haven't fully recovered from that. Shortly after watching Earthlings I went vegan and started watching films and reading books about plant based diets and factory farming. I watched Forks Over Knives, Food, Inc., and Food Matters, and Vegducation. I read the China Study, Veganist and Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman. I'm now aware of the problems our planet faces with dirty energy and factory farming and recently attended an educational event on GMO's with the guest speaker Jeffery Smith.
Moore County and Sandhills region
Farm Sanctuary leafletting, Social Media, I've protested the circus for the last two years in Fayetteville, attended the Taking Action for Animals Conference in 2012, walked in the Walk for Farm Animals for Farm Sanctuary twice, attended the Celebration of the Turkeys last year and will be volunteering to man a booth with Mercy for Animals at Vegfest. I'm a Pet Responsibility Committee volunteer with my therapy dog Fluke and I volunteer with a local rescue called Unchaining Moore Dogs. I'm currently looking into putting together a vegan restaurant guide for my area through Farm Sanctuary. I try to assess the person who I am speaking to and tailor the conversation based on how receptive they will be (that could be through a conversation about diet, or it may be about factory farming conditions). I do not work outside the home but dedicate most of my time to what I call "vegan outreach" and animal advocacy.
I'm doing whatever I can to put an end to animal suffering. I consider myself an Animal Advocate which automatically makes me an environmental advocate and a health advocate as well…that IS the beauty of being vegan!
I'm so happy to find a group of like minded, action oriented , compassionate peeps! Thank you for allowing me to become a part of this amazing group! I only wish I lived closer!
