Our activities and events are based on compassionately promoting ways to encourage the public to make vegan diet choices, with the eventual goal of more vegans and vegan options in North Carolina.
We believe leafleting is among the most effective outreach activities, and since it’s so easy that is our focus. We also do vegan food sampling at festivals and supermarkets and tabling at different events.
Our outreach style is modeled on Vegan Outreach and Mercy for Animals. Please take a look at those groups, and if you have new ideas for outreach, please share them!
The popularity of veganism goes hand-in-hand with the availability of good vegan options in restaurants and grocery stores. Also, we believe it can take a series of steps for an individual to transition to veganism. With this in mind, we also volunteer for the "Triangle Meatless Monday" initiative which is based on the national Meatless Monday movement. As part of this initiative, we work with local restaurants to improve vegan options and gather pledges from the community to try veg*n once a week.
You don't have to be vegan to join, but you should be interested in moving along that path and encouraging others to as well.
We are based out of the Triangle area of North Carolina, but also occasionally leaflet in other parts of the State.
For a great background, please read 'The Animal Activist's Handbook' by Matt Ball and Bruce Friedrich. It’s an easy read and covers the basics of why and how to do vegan outreach. Another great book is 'Change of Heart' by Nick Cooney, a must read for animal activists.
We look forward to hearing from you! If you are interested in joining this group, or have any questions about this group at all, please contact Eleni Binge (co-organizer).
