Hello Veggie Members!
It's officially Fall ! I can't believe how fast the year has gone. We are picking up speed for the group as well. We have our first ever "Fall Picnic / Potluck" scheduled this coming Sunday, Oct 2nd at Hills and Dales Metro Park. It should be great fun and an opportunity for casual mingling and trying new vegan dishes. here is a link to the event: http://www.meetup.com/VeganDayton-org/events/30687211/
Just a few KEY points for the event:
anything else you can think of that might be helpful is great.... I will bring trash bags and some eating supplies for those who might forget their own. If anyone wants to bring a vinyl table cloth for picnic tables, please do. What else am I not thinking of ? (be patient and please speak up... this is my first big picnic /potluck... so....)
Group News and other Information:
(some info borrowed from Dan, leader of the Columbus group)
We had a great event with the showing of Forks Over Knives last week.... what a wonderful experience and lots of inspiring stories ! We will be showing the film again in late October - on a Saturday evening, a great opportunity for you to bring family or friends who NEED to see this for the future of their health and quality of life ! Here is a link to that event on October 29th: http://www.meetup.com/VeganDayton-org/events/31563912/
We have "Vegan Dayton" T-shirts !!!
thanks to Josh's dad, who gave us a good deal on making some shirts and some ideas for the image, we now have 2 versions of Vegan Dayton Tees !!! I have both Unisex (male) and Women's cut styles... We will have them at the Potluck /Picnic this Sunday. I am asking only for $10 each tee - this is about what will cover my costs per shirt. I chose a few sizes and colors to start out (not knowing who would buy one, how many I would need) - so if needed, I can place another order soon for specific sizes or colors.
I will be looking into getting good quality vinyl stickers made as well - for use on cars or other places you see fit :-) If anyone knows a place that might give us a good deal.... let me know !
Advertising the group... getting more members!
We have almost 200 members now (with minimal advertising, if any) - thanks to the post we had running in the free "City Paper" for 3 months earlier this year and to Google for often putting us first in a search for vegan and Dayton. We have never really "advertised".... I can't afford to pay for it like a regular for-profit company or a big-gun Non-profit... heck, we are just a little free social group, nothing more. But, I woull like to get the word out there MORE....
one thing I've always planned to do, but hadn't "gotten around to it" is to print fliers and signs off the Meet-up site and post them around town, place piles of "take one" fliers in local coffee shops, other downtown places, work or grocery or library or other community Boards, etc.... Can some of you volunteer to do this(I will also - finally - participate in it). Its easy to print them out from the "More" tab on the group home page, under link to "promote"... I can help if you email me with any questions. You are also welcome (if you feel inspired) to design your own home-made sign and make copies. Keep it simple, color helps if you have it available, and mainly you want to promote the "VEGAN" and "free" and "social group" aspects - be sure to put our website on it www.vegandayton.org
