As a kid, my family would sometimes go deer hunting. I always hoped the deer would get away. I had thought of going vegetarian as I grew, but didn't, mostly because of the traditions engrained in me from my upbringing. About 6 years ago, my dad passed away because of colon cancer. While he was struggling with the cancer, I read a great deal about how to fight it and prevent it. I found that eating meat was a major cause of the cancer. A little before he died, I decided to become vegetarian. Going vegan was something that just grew on me. It seemed like the right thing to do. It has come to the point where I don't want to touch milk, eggs, meat.

I've been a vegan for about a year and a vegetarian for about 6 years. I'm married, have 4 kids (19, 17, 14, 11), 2 cats, and 2 fish. It would be fun to meet other vegans in the area.
