VegFest Colorado Announces Keynote Speaker John Schlimm, Comedian "Hippieman", and Complete Children's Program
Fourth Annual VegFest Offers Both Fun and Learning for the Entire Family
DENVER, Colo.-- June 20, 2013 - VegFest Colorado 2013, a health and environmental fair supporting a plant-based diet and lifestyle taking place at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, will feature award-winning author and activist John Schlimm, as keynote speaker at the fourth annual event. And, for the first time comedian John Novosad (Hippieman) will entertain attendees. Families bringing young children will find kids' rooms complete with books, toys, arts and crafts, videos, rest areas and scheduled readings.
John Schlimm is author of Grilling Vegan Style (Da Capo Press, May 2012), The Tipsy Vegan (Da Capo Press, 2011) and The Cheesy Vegan coming out this fall. Committed to a plant-based lifestyle, John has been a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Martha Stewart's Everyday Food, NPR's The Splendid Table, and cable's number one morning show, Fox & Friends. John earned a Master's degree in Education from Harvard University and has authored 12 books. He is an inspirational/motivational speaker and on the topics of food, cooking and entertaining.
As a special treat, Comic John Novosad, will entertain attendees this year as his character "Hippieman". Most recently, John performed stand-up comedy on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. John has toured extensively throughout the US. He is a native of Boulder, Colorado and "really good at growing hair".
The children's program will be located in the lower level of the Exhibit Hall of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The Hall will host nine VegFest Colorado speakers, six cooking demonstrations, food sampling, and 62 exhibitors including restaurants, commercial vendors and non-profits.
"VegFest Colorado offers families a rich experience for all ages," said Peter Swissdorf, director of Vegan Life Colorado and head of VegFest Colorado. "From outrageous chefs like the Vegan Black Metal Chef to a brilliant lineup of inspiring speakers, Boulder's own Hippieman comic and rooms for families to take a breather, we've done our best to accommodate the entire family. We encourage anyone who has an interest in plant-based food and/or lifestyle to attend."
Admission to VegFest: Current annual paying and lifetime members of Vegan Life Colorado (formerly the Vegetarian Society of Colorado) are admitted free. This does not include members of the Vegan Life Colorado Meetup or Announce List. Adults pay $5.00 at the door. Admission for children 18 years of age and younger is free. Parking is also free.
