La Madre Peak....Day 2!!

Albertsons (map)

Selected By: Shin

Since I got many hikers on the waiting list on April 18th La Madre Peak Hike, I have decided to make one more group and go on Sunday.

La Madre Peak (8,154 ft) is the highest mountain within the La Madre Mountain Wilderness Area.
Its located on the North West side of Turtle Head Peak.

This very difficult hike will take you up the crown peak of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and will reward you with views of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon to the southwest, and the Spring Mountains rising to Mt. Charleston to the west and northwest.

There is no clear trail on this hike. We will follow the dry wash for first 3.5 miles.
The dry wash getting narrower and steeper. Then we leave the dry wash and climb up on the Ridge.
From there, its getting very steeper. Many loose rocks and screes. Class 2-3 scramble for last 1 mile to the Peak. No major exposure but some minor one.
Its about 9 miles round trip and about 3,900 ft total elevation gain. Its about twice longer and higher than Turtle Head Peak.

Since this is off trail hike, No beginner hiker please. Even if you give up on the way up to the peak, you can't get back to the trail head by yourself. So you have to wait at there until we come back to pick you up on the way down.

Bring lots of water, food/snacks, cap/hat, sunglass, sunscreen, light jacket, rain gear(poncho), gloves and great atitude.
Trekking Pole will helps you a lot, if you have one
.

Let's meet at Albertsons Parking Lot at 8:00AM. We carpool at there and drive up to Sandstone Quarry Parking Lot. This is our trail Head.
Plan to carpool and riders should chip in $1-$2 for gas.

No Kids, No Dogs, No Guests and definitely No Whining!

Great Group. We made it to the Peak in little over 4 hours. That's only a few minutes slower than 1st Day group. It was very warm/hot day. I drink a lot of water much more than any last 6 month hikes.

Another Shin masterpiece! I don't know how he does it? He made great weather, just the right amount of scree, and raised the summit another 50 feet! Good workout. The group was as usual, a great bunch of people who helped each other as a team. Lots of laughs before the pain sets in tomorrow ...
