Hiking the Zion Narrows means hiking in the Virgin River. Most of the hike is spent wading, walking, and possibly swimming in the river. There is no maintained trail; the route is the river. The current is swift, the water is cold, and the rocks underfoot are slippery. Flash flooding and hypothermia are constant dangers. Good planning, proper equipment, and sound judgment are essential for a safe and successful trip. You must be a strong hiker to be able to hike in the strong current of the river with a backpack.
We will be doing the Narrows as a one night 16 mile backpacking trip. We will start at Chamberlain’s Ranch and end at Temple of Sinawava. The first day we will hike 11 miles to campsite #12 the Southern-most campsite. The second day will be a leisurely 5 miles with plenty of time for pictures.
Friday night before the hike we will camp at Zion Canyon Campground in Springdale. The cost for camping Friday night will be $10 per person. We will be using Zion Adventure Company to shuttle us from Springdale to Chamberlain’s Ranch. The shuttle leaves their 36 Lion Blvd. location at 6:30am mountain time. The cost of the Shuttle is $31.50 per person. You do not have to camp with us Friday as long as you meet us at the outfitter for the shuttle Saturday morning.
A wooden hiking stick is best and I recommend renting the canyoneering boots and neoprene socks from the Zion Adventure Company, the same outfitter that is providing the shuttle.
Those wishing to carpool can meet at 2pm Friday on the north side of the fourth floor of the parking structure of The Cannery Casino. You can also meet us at the campsite or at the shuttle pickup Saturday morning. Those wishing to carpool at a different time should post a comment or make arrangements with other participants.
The number of people is limited by the permit I have and I want be sure all 12 spots will be filled. So that I get a firm commitment I would like payment by May 18th. The best way is using PayPal. You can send money to my paypal account by referencing my phone number [masked]. If you would like to pay by cash or check please email me to arrange payment.

Nevermind. I just checked the map and it looks like big springs is just across the river from campsite 12.
I have changed the Friday night camping to Zion Canyon Campgrounds. The campgrounds are across the street form the outfitter that will be taking us to Chamberlain's Ranch.

If you are going to rent canyoneering boots, a hiking stick, and neoprene socks from the Zion Adventure Company (I highly recommend), please mention my name. I do business with them and try to send them business. Thanks, Branch
Branch - I am renting the boots........ I'll ask them if they know the guy from Vegas that herds goats!

Bob, do you know if there is a fresh water spring near campsite 12? Water from the Virgin deosn't taste too good even if it's filtered.
