4 Peaks (Charleston, Mummy, Griffith & Fletcher Peak) in 1 day hike

This is my 2nd annual '4 peaks in 1 day hike'. I did it with 3 other guy on last year. Peppe the Sierra Club leader was leading a hike and I ran into them at Griffith Peak. We had a lot of fun last year. Peppe is doing this hike every year and he allows me and some strong hikers from meetup to join him this year.

Stats:
Hike: 4 Peaks (Mt.Charleston, Mummy Mt., Griffith and Fletcher) in 1 Day
Trailhead: Rainbow Canyon Trailhead.
Distance: 22+ miles
Elevation gain: about 7,000 feet
Elevation peak: 11,918 feet (Charleston Peak)
Time: 12 to 14 hours
Difficulty: 5

Please click and check the 3D route on Google Earth

Since this is not an easy hike, I allow only 6 hikers to join us.
To join this hike, you have to make RSVP Maybe and convince me you have the experience. There are only couple of class 2-3 scramble section but you have to be strong enough to hike 22+ miles and climb over 7,000 ft.

We will meet at Starbucks@95/Durango on 4:00AM. Then drive up to Mt.Charleston Lodge by 4:30AM. First, we will leave 2 cars at North Loop Trail head. Its our pick up point and end of the hike. Then goes to Rainbow Canyon Trail head. (We are NOT going to South Loop Trail head.) Its located on South end of Rainbow subdivision residential area.

Then we will climb up Griffith, Charleston, Mummy and Fletcher. I think more than 70% of this route is trail.
We will hike on faster pace since Peppe is leading. (He is fast hiker) But, we will stop several times to let slower hikers to catch up.

Its a long day hike. But there is NO water refill station. So, you need carry at least 1 gallon of water and some snack on your back.
Even its July, we will hike more than 10,000 ft for all day. The Temperature up there will be 25-30 degrees colder than City. So, please bring light jacket/wind breaker.
Usually, monsoon season wont started yet on July 4th, but you won't know how fast mountain weather changes. You MUST bring poncho/rain gear.
Sun rise around 5:15AM and down around 8:00PM. So, we got more than 12.5 hours to complete. But we have ONLY 12.5 hours to complete in day lights. And we don't know how long it takes.
Actually, when I led 3 peaks hike on last year, it took 9.5-12.5 hours. And it took over 12 hours when we did 4 peaks on last year. Its all depends on hikers. So, possibly we hike in the dark for last few miles and you will need Headlamp.

Trekking pole or hiking stick will helps you a lot. Please bring it if you have one.

Please bring hat, sunglass, sunscreen. Don't forget, its a long day hike. And most part of the route doesn't have shade. You will lose lots of energy when you got sun burn.

You can bailout from the group after the Charleston Peak or Mummy Mtn. Peak. Just follow the North Loop Trail and wait us at the Trail head.

One more thing. Its July 4th and we will celebrate the independence day, so please bring small American National Flag. Attach it on your hat, trekking pole or back pack.

No dog, No kids, No Guest, No Mexican Flag please !!

Please call me or email me if you have any question.

Are any of you going to watch the fireworks from Red Rock/Muffin Ridge (organized by Branch) afterwards?

Great company to hike with. Beautiful weather and view from the top. Peppe made a lot of stops for us to catch us up. Otherwise we lost half of the group. Fortunately all of us made all the 4 peaks without any injury or brain damage.

Thanks Peppe and Shin. Peppe substituted Harris Pk for Fletcher; so we did the four peaks around the long Charleston ridges. Great weather and people, tough rewarding hike!

Great group, tough hike but rewarding at the end of the day.
