Starbucks @ 95/N. Durango (map)
I did this hike with meetup on last September and 4 of us made it.
Since it was short day time, we had been forced to walk faster at the last moment. We got down to the trail head right on Sunset.
So, I have decided to post this hike for month earlier than last year.
Stats:
Hike: 3 Peaks (Mt.Charleston, Mummy Mt. & Griffith) in 1 Day — Trail Canyon, North/South Loop Trail - Open Loop
Trailhead: Trail Canyon Trailhead — marked.
Distance: 18+ miles
Elevation gain: 6,000 feet
Elevation peak: 11,918 feet (Charleston Peak)
Time: 10 to 12 hours
Scramble : class 1-2, few class 3
Hiking pace : Moderate/Fast
Difficulty: 5
We will meet at Starbucks at 95/Durango on 6:00AM and leave there by 6:15AM.
Our trail head is Trail Canyon Trail head. But we will finish at South Loop trail head. So, we park few cars at there before hiking.
We will start hiking by 7:00AM and climb Mummy Mtn. first. Then Charleston Peak and Griffith Peak. We will come down to South Loop trail head.
Compare this 3 peaks hike with Mt.Charleston hike, the total distance is not much difference. Maybe only a mile or two. But, since we climb 2 extra peak, we have to climb another 1,300 ft.
The total Elevation gain is 6,000 ft. Its about same elevation gain as climbing Black Mtn for 3 times.
I hope we can finish by sunset (7:22PM). But just in case, you MUST bring headlamp.
Even its on August, its cold up there. Actually, we got hail on last year. Don't forget your extra layer and poncho. Rain and hail doesn't kill you but cold temperature will kill you.
Its a long day hike, you need a lot of water. Bring at least 1 gallon of water. If you don't want to carry that much water, stash the water at some peak before we do this hike. Also, bring some snacks. You won't make it if you don't eat anything.
The route doesn't have many trees to protect us from sun shine. Please bring Sunscreen, Sunglass and hat/cap.

If there are more than 12 hikers on the waiting list, I will do it on 16th Sunday too.
Since its in the monsoon season, we'll start from Mummy Mtn. Then Charleston and end up with Griffith.
I recommend stash the water at near the Charleston Peak first, then Griffith Peak, then Mummy.
Anyway, check the google 3D route Map and stash the water on the route, otherwise you won't get those water.
I usually carry 12oz Gatorade for stashing. Its small enough to hide easily.
As I noticed, I will open second group for 16th Sunday. Please send me an email that which group (15th Saturday or 16th Sunday) you want to come with.
Anyone doing Charleston & Griffith for training? I hiked Griffith by myself yesterday, would like to have company.
Awesome, I'm glad to be in the group!
I'm bringing a dog who can definitely do this and has peaked charleston multiple times, done the palisades glacier (17 miles, 6000 foot gain) etc. I'll take responsibility for her, but she never tuckers out. Let me know if someone has a major problem.
Thanks everyone for welcoming me into the hike today! It was a blast trail blazing with you all.
Best,
James, from the John/Jungle
Um...My first peak with you guys at Mummy's Belly has been uploaded for the 2nd Annual '3 Peaks in 1 Day' Hike (Mt.Charleston, Mummy Mtn., Griffith) hike. (photo #62)
LOL.

Payments you make go to the organizer, not to Meetup. You must make refund requests to the organizer.
Log in to Meetup with your Facebook account.
You got 8 more weekends to train yourself. And you better start training and stashing some water if you don't want to carry it.
