Starbucks @ 95/N. Durango (map)
'Cockscomb Ridge' is not popular, but many hikers in this meetup group have seen this Ridge.
If you have ever hiked Trail Canyon, you saw the sawtooth ridge line on your right side (South) near the Northloop trail junction. Thats the 'Cockscomb'. (Not a left (North) upper ridge. Thats Mummy's knee and toe)
It seems unclimbable or needs rope to climb, but there is a route to the peak without using ropes.
It is a short hike. Actually, its one of the shortest hike I ever lead. But, its one of my favorite hike since there are some class 3 scramble with exposure.
As usual on my hike, there is no clear trail on this hike.
From this peak, you can see all 5 peaks (Mt.Charleston, Mummy, Griffith, Fletcher and Harris) surrounding Kyle Canyon.
Since there are some big exposure, I don't recommend this hike to anyone who have fear of height.
To avoid down scramble at exposure, we take a different route down. Its all class 2, but very steep scree chute to descend.
Bring lots of water, food/snacks, cap/hat, sunglass, sunscreen and gloves.
Since its under monsoon season, you must bring rain gear(poncho) even its sunny. Mountain weather changes in a second. Rain won't kills you but cold temperature kills you!
No trekking pole needed. Its too steep to use it.
Let's meet at Starbuck's at 7:30AM.
Plan to carpool and riders should chip in $5-$6 for gas.

You can bring them if you think they can handle it.
I just don't want to take a risk to get anyone who never scrambled some exposure.
