Harris Peak and Griffith Peak

Griffith Peak (11,056 ft) is the 3rd highest and Harris Peak (10,014 ft) is the 9th highest Peak in the Southern Nevada.
Since there is no trail to the Harris Peak, it doesn't get many visitors.

Summer season in the Mt.Charleston Area is ending and I won't post any Mt.Charleston area hike after this week. ( I may post some snowshoeing hike, but who knows.... )

First of all, this hike is not easy hike. This hike is comparable to Charleston Peak hike.

We are going to summit the Harris Peak fist, then Griffith Peak next.
There is no trail to the Harris Peak from Griffith-Harris Saddle. Its a class 1-2 scramble.
We'll climb about 2,400 ft in 2.3 miles to the Harris Peak. Its waaay steeper than Trail Canyon (1,500 ft in 2.1 miles). So, it will take 1.5 - 2 hours to the Harris Peak.
After the short brake at the peak, we hike down to the saddle, then climb up to the Griffith Peak. Its another 2,000 ft elevation gain. Last 1/4 miles to the peak is Off trail and steep. It will take another 2 hours to the Griffith Peak from Harris Peak.

Bring lots of water, food/snacks, cap/hat, sunglass, sunscreen and gloves.
Since its under monsoon season, you must bring rain gear(poncho) even its sunny. Mountain weather changes in a second. Rain won't kills you but cold temperature will kill you!
It will be bit chilly at the Peak, so please bring light jacket.
Trekking pole helps you a lot on this hike if you have one.

Let's meet at Starbuck's (95/Durango) on 7:30AM.
Plan to carpool and riders should chip in $5-$6 for gas.

Great bunch of hikers to hike with. Made it to the Harris Peak in 2 hours and Traverse to the Griffith in another 2 hours. We have completed this hike in 6.5 hours. Weather was beautiful. Started Sunny and worm then cloudy, little shower at the Griffith Peak. It was little chilly at the Griffith Peak, but still it was great temperature to hike. Saw lots of hikers at the Griffith Peak.

What a great day! Aspen's turning into their fall colors, clap of thunder that sounded like it was right over our heads and the unbelievable views made for a memorable day of hiking in Mt. Charleston! Thank you, Shin for letting me attempt this hike with you and I aspire to do many more of your hikes in the future!
