Damsel Peak

Damsel Peak (6,977 ft) is very minor Peak since there are no trail to get threre, but most of our hikers have seen this peak on the way to the Red Rock or even from the city.
Its located North of Calico Hills and East of La Madre Peak. You will see twin peak ridge, thats the one.
The view from the peak is gorgeous. The city view from the peak is almost as same view from the La Madre Peak.

This is not an easy hike. Actually, its a hard hike. Total elevation gain and distance is almost double of Turtle Head Peak hike. So, please reconsider before you make RSVP. If you have done Mt.Charleston Peak, Mummy Mtn. or Griffith Peak hike without any trouble, this hike is good for you.

Round trip is about 11 miles and take 7 - 8 hours with slow/moderate speed. About 4,000 ft elevation gain.
Some class 3 scramble with minor exposure.

Bring lots of water, food/snacks, sunglass, sunscreen, cap/hat and rain gear(poncho) even its sunny.
Gloves are good choice since we use hands at several points. Those rocks are lime stone and its sharp.
Trekking pole may helps you a lot if you bring it.

No kids, No dogs, No guest please!

Let's meet at Kraft Mtn. Trailhead @ Calico Basin at 8:00AM.

Stats:
Hike: Damsel Peak - Up and Back (possible make loops around Kraft Mtn.)

A few years ago, I hiked to Damsel Peak with the Las Vegas Mountaineers Club. We drove to the trailhead on a rough dirt road that started near the intersection of Cheyenne and 215. Elevation gain of that hike was less than 2000 feet. I'm looking forward to trying this new route, which involves more hiking and less driving.

I believe that load is already blocked by BLM since they banned dart road driving around the city (due to dust). We can still walk up on this road for 4 miles, but from North side is brushy and from South side via Brown stone wash is not a fun hike. (scree is too soft to hike)
Thats the reason no many hikers have climbed up this mountain for last few years.

We got high wind for first couple of miles, but it was not an issue. Actually, we didn't get any wind at Damsel Peak. The weather was perfect. All the hikers were in good shape and nobody drug the group. Completed this hike in 7.5 hours.

I've gone on four hikes with Shin recently, and they were all great. This new route to Damsel Peak was more interesting than the shorter route I took in 2005.

Excellent hike (if you disregard the wind). Last climb is tough but the views from the top are very nice.

Wonderful hike! I definitely place it in my top five favorite hikes so far: some sandstones, lime stones, skree, trail, even petroglyphs and of course the peak with an incredible view. Fun group to hike with to boot! Thanks Shin.

This hike was awesome. It was long and challenging. The view from Damsel Peak is top notch, and the Indian markings were amazing to see.
