Trekking with Chev: Summerlin Peak

Starbucks @ 215/Cheyenne (map)

Selected By: A former member

Looking for a nice little challenge this Sunday, why not join me in hiking Summerlin Peak. It’s in the far Northwest at the end of Cheyenne at the 215. The hike itself is not to long but at points it’s very steep, where you may have to scramble up on all fours, I highly recommend gloves! This is not a hike for beginners, but it is an up and back, so we can catch you on the way back down if need be!

We’ll be meeting at the Starbucks in the last plaza on Cheyenne before the 215. I’ll be in a silver Jeep Liberty covered in stickers!

From Shin’s Summerlin Peak Hike back in February
There is no trail on this hike. We hike dry wash for first 1.3 miles then start climbing steep hill. Its all class 2 scramble but very steep. 1,600 ft elevation gain in 0.7 miles.
There are no major exposure but couple of minor one. Its about 5 miles round trip and more than total of 2,300 ft elevation gain. Its little bit harder than standard Turtlehead Peak Hike. Sorry, but this is NOT a beginner's hike.
We will hike moderate pace. But if you can't keep up with group pace or give up on the way up, I will pick you up on the way down.

Hike Stats:

Hike: Summerlin Peak — up and back
Distance: 5 miles
Elevation gain: 2,300+ feet
Elevation Peak: 5,082 feet
Pace: Moderate
Time: 4-5 hours
Difficulty: 3 – 4

What to bring:
You will need water (at least 1.5 liters)
Gloves
A warm jacket may come in handy at the peak
Food/snacks
Hat
Sunblock
Sunglasses

As always no-shows are not appreciated or accepted. Guests will have to be cleared by me in order to attend, depending on their skill level.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me

Those two 4 legged hikers were awesomely fast and fleet footed, they kicked our bipedal collective butts. I think that they are ready for Everest now. If I need to be rescued though, I still prefer a St. Bernard, as they can carry a larger quantity of rum under their chins than the little fellers can.

The workout certainly beat the gym & the 360 views were great! Thank you, Chev and Shin, for being such conscientious leaders-----always alert & aware of hikers' needs & abilities.

Doodly and Bella hated it. Right now there are in Canada, taking vengeance against the Canadian people by devouring them all. It was an awesome hike, beyond my expectations. Great group. Thanks for leading this. I will definitely do again.

Great group of people. A relatively short but steep hike with a relentless gain in elevation, leading to a superb summit view of the surrounding valley. All that and only 6 miles from my house!
