Moonlight Hike to River Mountain

DUE TO THE AMAZING TURNOUT FOR THIS EVENT, WE ASK THAT ALL OF YOU CARPOOL FROM THE FIESTA HENDERSON. PLEASE ARRIVE AT THE FIESTA UNDER THE BIG SIGN BY 6:30 SO WE CAN ARRANGE CARPOOLS.

"This was my first hike and I had a blast! I would recommend this to anyone. I had a chance to meet a lot of really nice people and I am already excited for the next hike." - Kristina K

"What a view! This was my first hike with this group and it will not be my last." - Brad

This is why we keep doing the Moonlight Hike. Those comments are from our last trip up the River Mountain Trail. Month after month, new members and veteran members get together for an opportunity to socialize and enjoy each other's company AND hike at the same time! If you've never been on a Moonlight Hike, read on and you'll see even more reasons why you should come out. If you have been, save yourself some time and just click on the link to RSVP "Yes!"

The Moonlight Hike is a relatively easy hike that's led at a casual pace. It's a hike that most anybody can enjoy, and everyone is welcome, including kids and dogs! This month we're headed out to the River Mountains in Boulder City. The River Mountain Trail gains 1100 feet over 2.5 miles (making it 5 miles round trip). The ascent isn't especially steep, and we'll be taking our time. Still, you will be hiking, so come prepared. Bring warm clothes in LAYERS so you can take some off to prevent sweating. You should also bring a headlamp or flashlight just in case the moon is blocked by clouds or haze.

The view from our destination is fantastic! The whole Vegas valley will be spread out before you on one side, and Boulder City will be on the other. There are even views of the lake! On the way up we'll pass over, across, and on numerous mountain bike trails and use trails - great to explore in the daylight - until we reach the mouth of the canyon that will take us up to the saddle that is our destination. As with all Moonlight Hikes, we'll stay together and take breaks on the way up to enjoy the scenery.

If all that isn't enough, the best reason to come out on the Moonlight Hike is...

The Moonlight Hike is good times!

TO GET TO THE TRAILHEAD, take US-93 through Boulder City like you were headed for the dam. In the middle of town, turn left on Buchanan/US-93. The road crests a hill and bends right. The trailhead is immediately ahead on your left and is marked. If you get to St. Jude's Ranch, you've gone too far. If you get to the Hacienda Hotel, you've gone WAY too far. The trailhead is only about 1/2 mile from the intersection of US-93 and Buchanan. In fact, it's right here. Hooray for Google Maps!

IF YOU WISH TO CARPOOL, you should meet at the Fiesta Henderson under the huge sign at 6:30. Leave by 6:40 to arrive at the trailhead by 7:00 PM.

See you on the trail!

I borrowed the trekking pole at the Saddle from someone. (it was too dark and couldn't see who was that) Your trekking pole really helped the lady with twisted ankle. She wouldn't make it without your pole. I really appreciate you. Anyway, I still have your trekking pole and ready to get it back to you. So, please let me know how do I bring it back to you. Thanks.

Shin, that was my trekking pole. Glad to be of assistance. I'll let you know when I'll be at the next meetup and I can get it.

It was nice meeting everyone last night. First Meetup I've been to and what a great way to start out the New Year.

Another successful Moonlight Hike! We had one hiker go down with a sprained ankle, but we pulled together and got everyone down safely. Special thanks go out to Shin, Big Tall Jon, Latoyia, Jason, Travis, and especially Candace for helping out when we needed them. You guys rock!

Great Hike Alan! Spectacular view from the peak. Maybe someone can organize a flashlight-free zone on a future hike. Sometimes the turning on and off of flashlights kills others' nightvision and makes it harder than easier to see.
