Starbucks @ 95/N. Durango (map)
Trail Canyon is one of the most famous trail. Its 2 miles one way and about 1,500 ft elevation gain.
The sign at trailhead says 'strenuous', but this is one of the easiest trail around the Mt.Charleston area.
I set this hike as 'intermediate/beginner' snowshoeing hike since this trail is little bit harder than Bristlecone trail snowshoeing hike.
We will hike up the famous 'Trail Canyon' on the SNOW !! Yes, we are going to snowshoeing again !!
I think many hikers have done this trail in the Summer Season. (Going to Raintree, Cockscomb, Mummy Peak, Charleston Peak etc..) But have you ever hiked in Winter?
This is kind of 'snowshoeing 102' class. That means, its little bit harder for snowshoe beginner, but not so hard. Beginner is welcome and second timer is more than welcome.
Stats:

To join this hike, you MUST bring the following gear.
Buy it, Rent it or Steal it. What ever it takes
1. Snow Shoes....You can rent snowshoes at Sports Charlet or REI
2. Ski pole or Trekking pole (with snow baskets)
3. Alpine Boots or Water proof Boots (with at least mid ankle)
4. Gloves
Also, the following gear are recommended.
1. Snow Gaiters
2. Ski Pants
3. Beanie Hat...(you can protect your ear)
4. Jacket/wind breaker...yeah, its really cold up there if its windy. (but don't bring too many layers. 3 - 4 layers are enough!)
5. Sunglass
6. Sun screen
Please bring lots of water and snack too. We'll stop at the top of the Trail Canyon for short lunch.
The water in the hydration hose may freeze if its not insulated. Bring it in the water bottle.
Hot coffee or tea might be good if you have insulated bottle.
Stay out of Cotton shirts, pants and socks. After it gets wet, it never drys in the snow. Wear Wool or nylon.
Dress in layers. Even you are hiking in the snow, you may get hot in few minutes after hiking. You can take off the outer layers and put it on when you are taking a break.
Very strong kids maybe OK. No Dogs, No Penguins, please.
Carpoolers must pay $5-6 to the Driver.
I may cancel this hike if the weather looks very bad. But, we will go if its lightly snowing.

I wasn't able to get poles at REI. They seemed to think would be ok without since there would be group. Any thoughts? Anyone have extra poles?
I'm not doing same hike many times especially beginner class.
But, hopefully some another organizer will do easy snowshoeing.
My opportunity is taking some hikers to the upper level.
