Annual Lake Mead group camp and potluck

Lake mead (map)

Selected By: Paul Dicianno

I figured that many of you would like to have something to do for Super Bowl weekend. Since the big game is not until 3:00 pm on Sunday, we will have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves before we pack up and head to our Sunday parties. I have been posting this camp out on different dates for three years now and it has always been very fun.

The weather is expected to be slightly overcast on Saturday. Weekend temperatures in the 60s during the day and 40s at night. This is excellent for camping. While hiking at the lake yesterday in Cleopatra wash, the weather couldn't have been more beautiful.

The Boulder campground is located just off of Lake Shore drive. When you drive through the fee booth ($5.00 per car or $20.00 for the year, National Park passes work also), just past the parking lot for the Historic Railroad Trail, take the 3rd right into the campground. We are in group site number 1. This campsite has restrooms and running water.

We will be within 10 minutes walking distance to the blue waters of Lake Mead. If you want to bring your fishing poles and are licensed, feel free to fish. Bring a canoe or Kayak if you want to spend some time on the water. If you have a boat slipped at the Bay and want to take any of us out just let us know. I will bring my canoe to share and I have extra life jackets. There are also numerous places to roam and hike.

On Saturday I will be posting a the Historic Railroad Trail hike and then inviting those people to join us for our pot luck after the hike.

Saturday we will have a potluck. Bring or prepare a dish to share with us. Chips do not count as a dish. However, snacks and drinks of all sorts are always welcome in addition to your dish.

I will bring a screen house or two in case we need it to keep shaded or dry.

This is a car camp so bring whatever you want to make yourselves as comfortable as possible.

Bring firewood please. We never have enough.

don't forget camp chairs.

It was rainy until the RR Tunnel hikers comes to potluck. We had a good time chatting and laughing. Glad to see those 'Whats wrong with rain?' kinda hard core campers.
