Free Class: Prepare for Zion Narrows

The Narrows in Zion is an unforgettable hike for anyone up to the challenge, whether you're an experienced backpacker or a curious beginner. Come learn two different ways to experience this amazing route, and tips to prepare your trip this Summer or Fall.

Wade the Virgin River through a slot canyon 1000 feet deep, sometimes only 20-30 feet wide, past waterfalls and hanging gardens. For newcomers, a day-trip starting from the "bottom-up" could be as easy as 3-8 miles; the distance is up to you. For a serious trek, obtain a permit for "top-down" and commit to 16 miles over one or two days. Either way, "good planning, proper equipment, and sound judgment are essential for a safe and successful trip."

We will describe the two routes, provide a checklist of gear, explain the top-down permit process, and answer your questions about this amazing adventure. Presented by Cynthia DesGrange, devoted Zion fangirl and an organizer for Las Vegas Hiking & Outdoors Meetup.

I think this was a great presentation. SHort, concise, simple to understand, easy to digest. I felt that if she could do it so could I, all else equal.

Can't make this but anyone that enjoys the Narrows should also look into hiking the subway up in Zion. You need a back country permit from the ranger station but it's a medium day hike if you just go from the bottom up to the subway and back. To go top down 1 way you need shuttle and ropes. Anyways, highly highly highly recommended!!!!

If you're on the waiting list, don't despair - the event is a month away and a dozen people will change plans. Plan on coming, because spots will open up several times, and you can nab one!
