Alright everyone... it's official, The 3rd Annual Mahogany Madness Campout is scheduled for May of 2009. We are having a camping trip that we have turned into an annual event that is loosely tied to another fun event earlier in the day, Skip's Rope Course. We are looking to have another great camping trip this year. We are moving the camping trip back to Saturday night, so everyone can sleep in on Sunday this year.
Who:
This is an invite to those Campers/Climbers/Hikers that love a warm campfire & crisp mountain air with great company for the weekend. Those that would like to camp after Skip's Rope Course and those who would just like to camp out on Mount Charleston in a cool spot.
Where:
The best campground on Mount Charleston
What:
A car camping trip, bring what makes you comfortable for the night. There is also talk of a hike somewhere on Mt. Charleston around 11am on Sunday for those that might be interested. Exploring Robber's Roost or Fletcher Canyon (3.5 miles roundtrip, 3 hours hiking time)
Food:
We will be providing dinner for Mahogany Madness this year. We will be BBQ'ing chicken on the grill with Jeff's Famous Southwest BBQ Beans & Coleslaw. We will have a potluck breakfast on Sunday morning around 9am, hopefully everyone will be up by then. Please bring stuff to help share in making breakfast burittos. You are welcome to share the grills.
Drink:
A keg of ice cold beer will await you for the evening, cups will be provided. You must be 21 years old to drink and once you start drinking you should do everyone a favor & stay at the campgrounds. NO drinking and driving, that's not cool.
When:
May 9th (Saturday) The group campsite will be opened to campers at 2:30pm. You may get to the campground anytime after 2:00PM, if you are attending the rope course and would like to setup camp during your lunch, let me know via email. I'll try to work something out with you.
What to bring:
Anything that you would like to have while you are camping, this is a car camping trip. Bring normal camping stuff: tent, sleeping bag, pillow, chair to sit fireside, flashlight or headlight, ice chest, etc. It would also be nice for everyone to donate one bundle of firewood for the campfire to keep you and your neighbor warm. There is a volleyball court at our site. We would need a volleyball net, if anyone has one or is interested in playing a game or two.
Parking:
We are only allowed the total of 18 vehicles at this group site . We will be monitoring the parking situation, we think it would be fair to use those parking spot in the groupsite for those that carpool together in a group of two or more. For those of you that can't drive in the HOV lane, there is a parking lot outside of the campground, if the other group site is occupied that night. It's a short walk up the hill to our site.
Cost to the campers:
$9.00 per person payable via Amazon Payments. If you have ever bought anything from Amazon before, you already have an account with them. If you haven't, it is a 3 minute process to pay & RSVP for the event. I've included a link to any question that you might have regarding Amazon payments: http://orc.meetup.com...
Campground information:
The sunset for Saturday night is 18:35 (6:35pm). That weekend will be a full moon and will peak Saturday night for the camping trip. Our site has a male & a female pit restroom, water faucets, and several grills. May 10th (Sunday) We will have to be out of the groupsite at 12:30PM
I look forward to seeing everyone again and having another awesome camping trip this year.

I'm hiking Cathedral Rock on Saturday afternoon. Would anyone like to carpool up with me at 12:00 from Albertsons at 95/Durango? We'll get to camp around 4:30 ... though I don't know what time dinner is? I need to leave early Sunday morning, no later than 10am. Maybe you can catch a ride home if you want to stay for hikes on Sunday?
