Calico Tank Peak & Turtle Head Jr. Loop

On last Nov.29th, 27hikers hiked to Calico Tank Peak and it was Blast.
This is not a hard hike but fun scrambling hike.
Last time, we didn't goes up to Turtle Head Jr., but we will go there this time.
This is one of the easiest hike I will lead.
But even though this hike is not suit for the very beginner hikers or some hikers with fear of height.
We will start from Sandstone Quarry parking lot and walk about 1.2 miles in moderate pace to the Calico Tank...its a little pool/puddle on the Rock.
Its only 350 ft elevation gain to the Calico Tank.
Then we will climb the hill to the peak. Its only 150 ft, but steep and some minor exposure.
There is a sign book/register at the peak of the hill.
We will stay little while. Eat, Chat, Take a nap, Walk around, what ever you want.
Then hike toward Turtle head Jr. The last part to the True peak of Turtle Jr. has some class 3 part and exposure. But, its not a serious one.
Round trip is about 3 miles and take 3 - 4 hours with slow/moderate speed. About 600 ft elevation gain. Difficulty 1-2
Bring water, food/snacks, sunglass, sunscreen, cap/hat and rain gear even its sunny.
No kids, No dogs, No guppy please!
Let's meet at Red Rock Entrance Parking Lot at 10:00AM. (free parking)
Its on the left side just BEFORE the fee booth.
We will carpool and drive up to Sandstone Quarry Parking lot. (its about 2.75 mile from entrance.)
Riders should chip in $1 for gas.

ShinEvent HostSuperman, Assistant OrganizerThere were some snow patch on the rock and it makes this hike much adventurous. We made it in 3.5hours. All the hikers are in good shape and enjoyed many scrambles. Didn't make it to the True Turtle Jr. due to snow/ice but at least we made it right next to it. Anyway, I replaced broken plastic register box to the Ammo Can at the Calico Tank Peak .

JoanShin is a great leader. He checked on everybody, and kept us all together. Although this hike was challenging, I felt comfortable and had a blast!

Linda MMy first trip to Turtle Head Peak Jr. Was a little more than I expected but was fun! Shin was great! I am looking forward to more hikes. Again, met a great group of interesting people! Was fun hiking with Pepper! Interesting to watch a hiker dog in action!
