Skip's 5th Annual Valley of Fire Campout

Here we go again! A family friendly weekend of hiking, camping, food, and music around the campfire Saturday & Sunday March 21 & 22.

PLEASE ONLY RSVP "YES" IF YOU'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE THERE. THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A VERY POPULAR EVENT AND "NO SHOWS" AND LAST MINUTE CANCELLATIONS ARE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Valley of Fire Park Brochure:
http://parks.nv.gov/p...

We can check into Group Campsite #3 at 3PM on Saturday March 21st. I'm thinking meet for breakfast at the Cannery around 8AM, drive out for a hike or two in the VoF. Then set camp and enjoy a pot luck dinner followed by music/good conversation around the campfire...however I'm open to suggestions. The 1/4 moon won't be rising till about 4AM so there should be some spectacular stargazing that night.

Then on Sunday, make your breakfast...share if you want... then hang in camp (we have till 2PM) or tear down and find another adventure. My suggestion is the recently exposed lost city of St. Thomas. But again, I'm open.

This is a rather PG-13 deal, so kids are very much welcome. NO DOGS.

Campsite is $75 for the night so a couple of bucks from everyone will cover that. Entry fee into Valley of Fire State Park is $6 per car.
THERE IS A MAXIMUM OF 12 CARS AT THE CAMPSITE SO CARPOOLING WILL BE A NECESSITY!

Hope to share a great weekend with you all,

If anybody has a pickup truck or vehicle we can load coolers and stuff into, that would be helpful, since we'll be 4 to a car plus gear... (Just a thought)

I'd like to bring my truck, since we tent the bed and sleep there. If so, Diane and I have room for two in the cab and plenty of room for gear. We are at Cheyenne and the CR-215. Anyone need a ride?

We might be looking to carpool but wanted to get back a little earlier on Sunday than 2pm. Otherwise I have a truck and could have folks throw some gear in the back for going up, but might need to rearrange for getting gear back! Looking forward to it - what are folks bringing to share Saturday night - any theme? :) I know we're bringing some wine.... :)

CrazyHiker, Why don't you and your daughter ride with Diane and I? I've got a quad cab pickup with plenty of room. We'll meet up at the Cannery.

Yep, like the post says...Meet for breakfast at the Cannery around 8AM... which is what I've done historically for the last several years. I expect that would get us on the road a bit after 9 and in Vof around 10-10:30. That leaves us plenty of time to hike around and work up an appetite before we can check into the campsite at 3P.

And it appears my vehicle is now full...me, Janis, Natalia & Dave. Sounds like everyone else is trying to work it out as well. We just need to keep it down to 12.

Parking...on NW corner of garage, level 4, aisle E. At the top of the ramp rurn right we should be right there.

Breakfast 8AM at Victory's Cafe. They will have a special section waiting for us with servers & bussers to take care of us.

I intend to leave the Cannery shortly after 9.

We should be at the VoF Visitor's Center by 10:30. We'll regather, use restrooms, decide on hikes and head out.

We can check into group site #3 (by the Beehives) at 3PM.

Yay, it's getting closer! I'm still hoping that Kathy and I can hitch a ride with someone coming back a bit earlier on Sunday. I have a class (Dave Ramsey) at 3:30pm. If I have to miss it, oh well...I saw Karen M's post, but only room for 1 it looked like. Also... on details: If I bring spaghetti fixings, will there be cookstoves or microwaves or what kind of kitchen stuff do people bring? It's a group area, so is there power or what? Just wondering if I needed to bring the old camping stove.

There's Potable water, several grills (bring charcoal), lots of counter space & tables for your cook stove, and a fire pit (bring wood). There is NO POWER, no lights and certainly no microwave.

Cool. The reason I asked about power is that groups I used to go car camping with brought everything but the kitchen sink. They had Christmas lights up, refrigerators and microwaves, etc. It was an experience. I'm looking forward to this weekend! I'll bring my stove and yes, wood for the fire pit.

The weather was beautiful if a bit windy :)(Katrina). Fabulous group of hikers, chefs (feast), musicians and bartenders (cantaloupe saki shots). It was great fun singing around the campfire. Can't remember the last time that I got to do that. Super trip. Thanks!

What a GREAT trip! The weather held for Saturday, the people were a great group and a good call to end the day on Sunday when we did. I'm thinking Skip has a direct line to Mother Nature? :-) Seriously fun and thank you all for making it so enjoyable!

Thanks, Skip. This was a blast. Enjoyed the Saturday hike, and the campground was gorgeous, if a bit windy! (That just made it fun to listen to things blowing around all night.) Enjoyed the campfire songs, and everyone's company. Great weekend!
