Soaring 7070 feet into the air with no easy route to its summit, Mt Wilson is the toughest peak in Red Rock in terms of a cardio workout. I will be leading the shortcut route, which ascends a giant bowl on the south face of Mt. Wilson. This is a tough hike, but not a whole lot of climbing!
At the summit there's a note where a ranger calls me a "menace to society." I like that!
You must be in very good shape to do this hike. It's tougher the Bridge via North Peak wash.
No kids, dogs, cats or hikers not in shape.
Stats:
Hike: Mt. Wilson — up and back
Distance: 8.5 miles
Elevation gain: 3,420 feet
Elevation Peak: 7,070 feet
Time: 7- 9 hours
Difficulty: 5
Only the 18 people on the list may come. The waiting list is there to indicate that you are interested in going. If/when someone does drop out, the people on the waiting list will get an email letting them know that a spot has opened up.
The hike organizer doesn't assume responsibility for anyone. Every hiking/climbing organization I have belonged to tells their members they are responsible for their own safety.
To follow along behind the group is similar to crashing the hike. Obviously crashing the hike would not leave a good impression with the leader.
Branch leads the more strenuous and technical hikes, and they tend to fill up quickly. Checking your email often will give you a better chance of getting on board.
Chris and Gary, thanks for the info and update. The assuming responsibility was a sarcastic remark. I just didn't understand how the event lead could forbid others from hiking, but now I see it is more of a courtesy request to minimize a hiking party. Well, hopefully next time.

What does it mean by waiting list? Is the guide only going to assume responsibility to those 18? Can others follow along behind the group? I am new to this MeetUp.com?
