Vegan Potluck with Cooking Demo

Please join us for tasty foods and friendly company!!!  Jubin has offered to teach us how to prepare a traditional Indian dish from 6:00-6:30 with our potluck feast to follow!  Please bring a vegan dish to share (no meat, eggs, dairy) with at least one copy of the recipe to put out by your dish.  We encourage you to bring your own place setting (plate, silverware, cup) and beverage of choice.  Beer and wine is allowed but must be consumed responsibly.  If you need recipe ideas, there are plenty on the Internet.  Some websites you may want to check out are www.chooseveg.com, www.101cookbooks.com, and www.fatfreevegan.com.   This will be a great opportunity to meet fellow vegans, vegetarians, and those striving to incorporate more meat-free meals into their diet.  It will also allow us to try out different foods and get inspiring recipe ideas.  We also have a lending library filled with interesting books, DVDs, or other educational materials.  We will be asking for a $1.00 donation to help cover the expense of the Meetup site and supplies.  Hope to see you at the potluck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome today, it was an incredible experience to meet you all, and try all of the great dishes. I cannot wait for the next event.

Thanks, Leslie. The container itself is practically worthless, but as a nesting set it does have some value. I will call them tomorrow.

Spectacular. I was awed with Stephanie's agave nectar discovery. Best baklava I have ever tasted.

Just come, Debbie. There are always many recipes that are obviously gluten-free. As far as I can remember, only the crackers had gluten. Last night, you could have filled up on the beans and rice and two different salads. I had six almond-date balls left over and you could have had all of those.

Actually, the crackers I brought were gluten-free, too. :-)

I really enjoyed the cooking demo Jubin did for us! All the foods were scrumptious as usual!

We plan on being there at about 5:40 so that Jubin and others can get situated with their foods.

Sorry for the last minute RSVP, I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it.

Hey Debbie, somehow I am not able to respond to your last post, hence starting a new one. In case you have time, I would suggest you attend the meeting on 23rd March even if you are not able taste the food items others would be getting. We can talk and review the spices you have and can plan something for the next event. Hope it works for you.

Jubin, I appreciate you offering to let me use your kitchen to cook something, but a friend is coming with me and offered to let me use his!
    See you all Sunday! :)

Glad to hear this Aria. See you on Sunday.

Hey Debbie. I will be just using Indian spices, lentils (boiled), tomato, onion and green pepper. Will double check the ingredients of the spices. You can have a look too.

Hi Debbie, I would be happy to know the Gluten free spices you have. I did read on Celiac and it seems quite challenging. I would take lot of precautions. Lets talk during the demo/round table and probably we can plan a demo with an Gluten free alternate curry next time. Since I have set the expectations for this time, it would be challenging to change the plan. There are some Indian spices which I would have to use for the demo. Apologies.

Thank you Jubin I appreciate that you would take the time to read about Celiac! Also that you understand how serious it can be. I know your food will be wonderful and I don't want to have anything changed because of it. I have special dietary restrictions which probably will keep me from attending the group because I would not be able to partake of the delicious vegan food offered. I do again very much appreciate your taking it seriously because it is. Most restaurants do not. God bless and enjoy the meeting.

Do you know if any of the demo will be gluten free too? I have Celiac and cooking without gluten is a whole other experience! Thanks! :)
