Are you fed up with supporting factory farming? Are you trying to reduce your carbon footprint? Would you like to get healthier? There are many good reasons to choose a more plant-based diet. No matter what your motivation, here’s a place you can learn the whys and hows of a veg lifestyle and have a darn good time doing it!
Most of our meetups center around food: we go to restaurants, have potlucks, share favorite recipes. But we also host events, presentations and discussions on related topics such as how our diet impacts animal welfare, the environment, or our health. It’s hard to talk about food without also touching on culture, socioeconomics, morality, law, spirituality, politics.... We recognize that these are controversial topics. But embodied in any controversy is a lot of passion and potential for learning so we don’t shy away from debate. We welcome a diversity of viewpoints among our members. We ask only that everyone abide by the Golden Rule: treat others with the same respect and compassion we would like them to extend towards us.
The organizers of VegHeads came to a plant-based diet for different reasons but we now agree that ethics is the strongest reason to avoid eating animals. We don’t think it’s right to harm animals if we don’t have to. This is not a perfectionistic stance; we recognize that modern life entails some compromise. But not as much compromise as one might think. We’ve been herbivores for a bunch of years already and we’ve learned so much, we’re eager to share it with you. And we know there are lots of prospective VegHeads out there who have a lot to share, too.
We recognize that everyone’s path is unique and it’s not our place to dictate what others should think or do. VegHeads welcomes all who share the one common aim to eat more plant-derived foods and fewer animal products. In keeping with our mission to expand our plant food repertoire, all our events feature 100% plant foods. If you find cooking without animal products intimidating, don’t worry, we are here to help!
