Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home is finally here! After a successful world premiere screening at the Moondance Film Festival in Boulder CO, where the film won the "Spirit of Moondance" Best Feature Documentary award, it is playing at the Orlando Film Festival. Filmmakers Jenny Stein and James LaVeck will be on hand for Q&A after the screening. Afterwards, there will be a reception at Ethos Vegan Kitchen.

This documentary is a story of transformation and healing that explores the awakening conscience of several people who grew up in traditional farming culture and who have now come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life. With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, PEACEABLE KINGDOM: THE JOURNEY HOME shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

View the trailer and learn more about the film at: www.peaceablekingdomfilm.org

Watch a video of premiere highlights and audience response at: www.tribeofheart.org/tohhtml/premierevideo.htm

We need your help to spread the word! Please consider joining us in building the excitement for this celebration of transformation, community, non- violence and compassion. Ask family members and friends who are unfamiliar with animal issues to join you in attending the festival events. You can send them our Evite (www.tribeofheart.org/tohhtml/orlandoffevite.htm) or our Facebook event invitation (www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=158469173306&ref=ts), post it on your website, blog, social networking site (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Meetup, etc.), add it to your calendar of events, or just send an email or call your family, friends and colleagues.

Your presence at these events, as well as your helping get the word out and bringing some people who are new to compassion issues to them, will make a meaningful difference. Together, we can make something special happen in Orlando!

Central Florida Veg Fest is back--bigger and better than ever! It will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at beautiful Loch Haven Park in Orlando. Vegetarians of Central Florida organizes Veg Fest!

The first Central Florida Veg Fest took place at Lake Lily in Maitland in October 2005. That event had 90 vendors and an estimated 3,000 attendees. Veg Fest 2007 at Loch Haven Park had 140 vendors and an estimated 5,000 attendees. Last year’s Veg Fest at Loch Haven Park had 200 vendors and an estimated 10,000 attendees. For this year’s Veg Fest we are projecting 250 vendors and 15,000 attendees.

The event will include healthy living and eco-friendly exhibitors, speakers, and presentations; non-profits; fun and games for kids; dog and cat adoptions; restaurant booths; food preparation demonstrations, and live music and entertainment. Central Florida Veg Fest will draw both committed vegetarians and those who want to learn more about how to protect our health, the planet, and its inhabitants. You can promote your business or group to thousands of people who want to learn more about vegetarianism and the varied products and services that support a veg-friendly and an eco-friendly way of life. All money raised will be used for local vegetarian education and outreach.

For more information visit www.CFVegFest.org. This website will be continually updated as additional sponsors, vendors, restaurants, speakers, musicians, etc. are added. Please check back often for all the exciting changes! If you are interested in participating, please contact us at info@CFVegFest.org. We are joining with the Global Peace Film Festival at the Winter Park Public Library to see Dear Mr. Gore, a documentary with a local twist. The director, Lisa Mills, will be on hand to talk about the film and answer questions. Tickets for the film are $8.00 and can be purchased online or at the venue. Also on the bill are the short films Epiphany at Chornobyl and Ideologies (The American Dream Song). This is a very special event that you won't want to miss!

Before the movie, we will be meeting at 12:00 p.m. at Power House Cafe (111 E. Lyman Avenue, Winter Park 32789) for lunch. Please indicate in your RSVP whether you will show up for lunch, for the movie, or both.

Dear Mr. Gore
This personal narrative documentary uses the director’s bicycle ride to work as a vehicle to explore fear and global warming. The film was shot over a period of two years in Sweden, Denmark and Orlando, Florida. It is a contemplative response to An Inconvenient Truth and provides a unique perspective on one person’s attempt to reduce her carbon footprint and overcome fear. She wonders, “Will Americans ever be able to give up personal freedom for the good of the planet?” Her journey to the answer takes the viewer on a humorous bike ride. Along the way she meets Swedes, Danes and many young people who aren’t afraid of giving up their cars. But she discovers that the reasons they ride may not be directly related to their concerns about global warming. The film features a bicycle ride with the Mayor of Orlando and music by Danish electric violin sensation Mads Tolling.

Vegetarians of Central Florida will also have a booth at the Global Peace Film Festival Street Fair on Sunday, September 20 from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

The 2nd Annual Global Peace Street Fair returns to Central Florida on Sunday, September 20th. This year’s street fair will take place on New Broad Street in Baldwin Park (Village Center) from 10am – 3pm. Admission is free. The street fair is one of many peace–oriented events festivities that include recognizing the International Day Of Peace with a reception/awards ceremony of peace-themed art by local K-12 student artists at the Rotunda at Orlando’s City Hall’s (September 21st) and the 7th Annual Global Peace Film Festival (September 22nd – 27th) at various venues in Winter Park, Orlando and Winter Garden.

The Global Peace Street Fair is a family-friendly event where attendees will learn about and experience various cultures, explore environmentally safe products and/or green initiatives, interact with animals and the positive impact they have on the environment, and intermingle with a variety of rescue organizations, art, music, dance, and so much more,” said Melixa Carbonell, a member of the Global Street Fair’ organizing committee and Marketing and Event planner for BullFish Baldwin Park, the official headquarters of the 7th Annual Global Peace Film Festival.

Highlights of the Global Peace Street Fair include:

* United Nations of Baldwin Park: Many businesses along New Broad Street will showcase their countries’ flag in their windows
* IWI Fresh from Sandi’s Corner featuring fresh, natural, chemical free, gourmet skin care (as featured on the Today Show)
* Winter Park Playhouse - showcasing their upcoming season

* Grafitti Art Exhibit by Nicholas Hayes

Rollins College International Studies Program will present several cultural organizations showcasing their countries art, dance, music, sports and other cultural experiences. The International groups will provide a "Glimpse into Our Living Room" approach, which will create a relaxing and inviting environment for people to enjoy an International cultural experience.

In addition, the International Pet Parade for Peace will parade down the sidewalks of New Broad Street and Common Way starting at 11:00am at the waterfront. Scooby Doo will serve as the Grand Marshall, and PURE tribal dance company will dress with international flair and help lead the parade, which is open to all well-socialized people and pets. Anyone interested in participating in the parade should meet at the end of New Broad Street near the fountain by 10:30am.

Please join us as we take a trip to Ocala to meet some cows, pigs, chickens, goats, horses and more at Kindred Spirits Sanctuary. Kindred Spirits is a non-profit farm animal sanctuary that cares for neglected, abused, unwanted, or displaced farm animals through the end of their natural lives. Click here for more info. We will take a tour of the farm at 10:30 am, have a picnic lunch, then help them around the farm afterward - so wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Click here for recommendations on what to wear/bring.

Bring your friends and family - this is a great way to get them to "meet their meat" in a no-pressure, positive way. Kids are welcome on the tour. This is such a great opportunity to interact with the sentient beings we choose to respect by not eating them. I have been told that the animals at the sanctuary are VERY friendly, and I can't wait for us to meet them!

If you would like to car-pool, we will meet at Infusion Tea on Edgewater at 8:30am, leaving there at 8:45. If you don't want to pack a vegan picnic, I can order box lunches for $8 including a drink (hummus and veggie wrap) from Infusion. (The sanctuary asks that any food we consume there be vegan.) You MUST email me by Friday evening the 4th if you would like a box lunch. We will send out a reminder a week before.

I will have directions printed to give you if you meet for the car-pool, or email me by the 4th. The owner of the sanctuary says that MapQuest, etc. is not quite accurate.

Let's all try to bring an item donation to thank them for their time and great work. Click here for wish list items. They would also like to add doggie grooming brushes to that list.

Email Jessi with any questions.

Enjoy a day of kayaking/canoeing, picnicking, games, hiking, and swimming in the springs!

Bring your own food, drinks, and sheets for the picnic. Waterproof bags (i.e. ziplocs) are good to bring to keep things dry.

As people arrive at the park they should meet at the rental concession. We will kayak/canoe down the Wekiva River for an hour or so, have a picnic on dry ground, and then head back downstream to the springs. Then we can go swimming, hike, and play games.

Costs:

Admission
$6.00 per vehicle (2-8 persons)
$4.00 per vehicle (1 person)

Rental
Single kayak or canoe: $16.00 up to 2 hours, $3.00 each additional hour
Double kayak: $22.00 up to 2 hours, $3.00 each additional hour
Drivers license required for each rental.
You may launch your own kayak or canoe for free (except for admission).

Directions to Wekiwa Springs State Park: From Interstate 4, take Exit 94 onto State Road 434 west (left if coming from the south). After about 1 mile, turn right (north) onto Wekiwa Springs Road and proceed about 4 miles to the park entrance, which will be on the right. Here is a map.

We will arrange for carpooling and will update with information closer to the event. If you have any questions or need to change your RSVP (especially the day before or day of), call Larry at 321-331-1859.
