Because the change happened over time, was inconsistent in the beginning, and was progressive, it's hard to say with certainty exactly how long it has been. Several years for sure since I consumed any flesh at all.
Over a period of several years I came to understand the reality of other [non-human] animals as well as the hidden agendas served by our culture's systematic indoctrination about them. It was a progressive awareness that began when I found and subsequently got to know a potbelly pig. That learning curve allowed me to know a chicken, then a cow. Once acquiring that awareness and understanding it became impossible for me to continue to think about the animal others on this earth as I had been conditioned to think about them. As a result, I also acquired a different perspective about dogs, cats, horses, and all the animal others we are taught to think about only in certain ways and described only by affixing certain labels. Given all the available information, and my own first person experience, the whole concept of raising and killing animal others for food is ludicrous.
Every different [non animal] thing or new way to prepare it that I discover.
Grew up in South Florida (Miami). Founded Darlynn's Darlins, a 501(c)3 potbelly pig and farm animal rescue/sanctuary. Working to ensure a better life for all at the expense of none.
I really like the people I've met in the group...just don't get to spend enough time with them because of living so far away and having considerable and time consuming obligations running a large animal sanctuary.
