Darling OurLando Vegetarians,

Be the Change
Be the change!

Hello sweet breezy weather that makes you want to get cozy with a fresh brewed cup of hot tea and a big bowl of homemade chili!!!! As we prepare for VegFest this weekend and with an eye on the upcoming Eat Local Week and Winter Park Harvest Festival, we cannot help but notice the sweet sound of transformation all around us. Dandelion is a place for everyone in our community to find common ground and our patrons make up a deliciously diverse cross section of ages, ethnicities, preferences, faiths, professions and income levels. We are a place where the 100% enjoy good food, including at least one of the 1%, the late Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace.

Chris and I opened the cafe because we became aware of injustices occurring across the globe that adversely affect the quality of life for everything and everyone on this planet of ours. We experienced moments of deep sadness and anger and even helplessness. We wanted to make a positive difference  but weren't sure how. After many attempts and deep thought we realized our particular talents might best be put to use with our training in business and penchant for dinner parties.  Looking back at our beginnings, we understood so little compared with what we have learned from all of you in the past five years, but we knew in our heart of hearts that we had to be the change we wanted to see in the world. One of the most heartening and hopeful things we are witnessing is regular folks standing up for their rights, finding their voice, telling their stories and finding ways to create the more beautiful world our hearts tell us is possible.

We may disagree on who or what broke the system, but we all agree that is is broken. Here are my picks for some of the most inspiring, informative, interesting and intelligent concepts to help restore vitality, personal freedom and equality.

OH, and because we know you love groovy local music, check out Alexandrah Sarton of Soliliquist of Sound new project, In Curses with this local music video shot in the Dandelion neighborhood.

Local Food Conference and Enterprise Summit

Farmers, Food Producers, Local Minded Investors, Restauranteurs, and local resilience advocates, THIS IS A MUST ATTEND EVENT!!!

The Harvest Conference is the first gathering of its kind in Central Florida. The aim is to foster synergistic relationships and pioneering food initiatives that will strengthen our local food system for many years to come.

Saturday, Nov 19th at Mead Gardens
as part of the Winter Park Harvest Festival

Bringing together the local food advocates, food enterprise entrepreneurs and thought-leading producers that have been the backbone of the local food movement in Central Florida to date while igniting new enterprises to fill some of the existing gaps in our local food system.

The day will begin with a gap and asset analysis of our local food system and includes opportunities to strengthen your own business and collaborate with other members of our local community.  It closes out with a keynote from Woody Tasch, the founder of Slow Money.

One of the goals of the conference is to create a slow food focused micro-lending program to accelerate the growth of our local food economy.  To activate this, the last session of the day will host twelve pre-qualified local food enterprises pitching their business or initiative to the attending local food stakeholders, area investors, investment club and like-minded entrepreneurs

You do NOT want to miss this epic, game-changing conference tailored specifically for Central Florida.

The conference is limited to 150 people, so reserve your spot right now! Learn more here.

Let us celebrate the new generation of entrepreneurs, consumers & investors who are showing the way from Making A Killing to Making a Living.

Local Food Roundup by Julie Norris

Highlights from the Central Florida Good Food Movement

Look no further than Central Florida local food movement to see proof of what happens when a group of dedicated individuals sets out to revolutionize a town. Five years ago, the few folks who even knew they wanted to eat local were hard pressed to find it anywhere. Now, due to the vision and hard work of a growing list of local food lovers, the gaps in a broken food system are being filled so that everyone can get the stuff delivered right to their door and access to producers is being made easier than ever. Today, you can gather - at the table, the community market, the food truck bazaar. Read the rest of the article online here.

This article in available in the current edition of Velocity Magazine, available at Dandelion and awesome shops throughout Central Florida.
