More riding in Joe's Country

More adventures on the Peninsula!

ROUTES:

1. PRETTY EASY 43-MILE OPTION. Mykill has kindly agreed to lead this ride.

Confirmed attendees: Mykill, Scott H, Karolina, Tracey, Barbara, Dan, Sasha (needs a ride)

Click the link for a map. You can print out a route sheet from this website. About 20 miles of this route is on cycling trails, meaning no cars (yay!). The car-free section also happens to be the most scenic part: Sawyer Camp Trail, which takes you alongside Crystal Springs reservoir under a canopy of California Oaks. If you don't yet know this paved trail you are in for a delightful discovery. Those that do know it will welcome a return visit. There is some climbing, but they are not long climbs. The main climbs are at the Crystal Springs/Polhemus Roads detour.

2. PRETTY HARD 70-MILE OPTION WITH SOME REALLY BIG CLIMBS

UPDATE:  THURSDAY DEC. 6. WE WILL START THIS RIDE AT WOODSIDE TOWN HALL, AS WITH THE 43-MILE RIDE.

Confirmed attendees: Paul, Amy, Joe (needs a ride), Kathrin, Brian

tough ride, great day! killer route choice by Amy with 70 miles and 7k of climbing, ouch. the ups were long, scenic and well paced. the downs were ch-ch-chilly and spectacular. the descent down Hwy 9 is one of the best in the Yay Area. it was fun to see the other group of Velo Paradisions at the start and end of the day. nice job to everyone for pulling off the logistics on this one.

Beautiful ride Paul picked out for us and the weather/scenery was gorgeous. The group was a pleasure to ride with, and we were matched well enough to keep a tight little pack most of the ride.

Climbs were great, the descents were freezing cold!

Another Epic ride. Great route (with lots of tough climbing), fabulous scenery, excellent company. Big thanks to Mykill for leading the 43-mile ride. Big thanks also to Amy for being the route manager of the 70-mile ride.

I'm definitely in now! Is there anyone I can carpool with? I'm coming from SF.

Up for a 40-something miler (off bike now for 3+ weeks). I also need to be back in the city by 6pm - if possible would be great to carpool with someone in the shorter group.

I am planning to arrive early and ride from canada road and Hwy 92 to Woodside Road and back prior to the ride to get in an extra 15 miles if anyone wants to join. I plan on starting this at about 7:30am. Then I will drive over to the start of the regular ride at Woodside Town Hall. Unfortunately, my car only holds one bike. I am coming from Marin.

Any interest in starting at 9:00 in the interests of finishing before it gets dark?

    December 2, 2012

    • Paul

OK, I'll change the start time to 9 a.m.

We should all carry lights and reflective strips anyway. It gets dark early there beneath the trees. For safety we should plan to use lights an hour before civil twilight (approx 5:20 p.m.) A spate of punctures or other contingencies would keep us out beyond 4 p.m.

I'm definitely in now, hopefully i can swing a B group longer route if any other slower climbing/semi-fast flat riders want to ride with me. If not (or if the elevation of the longer ride scares the bibs off me) i will do the shorter thing.

Hey mykill - sounds like a good game plan, I'll ride along

For the tougher ride, based on the route I saw from Amy there are 75 and 105 mile options. The 105 has an additional 1500 foot climb >:)

I would be up for the 40-miler with some climbing. 'Big climbs' sounds like a gut-buster.
