Hi Lance, Those are good suggestions and I am sure the group welcomes your input. Paul posts an agenda for every meeting and invites folks to add to it and I know that he really does want this to be a group!

I am working to get some equipment for the group and my focus now is 3-d printers. Do you have any thoughts about what might work for a pop-up like ours? There is a conversation from 5 days ago about dual extruders, portable, etc. There are so many out there and more all the time! We are aiming for 2 because time is limited. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your participation and input!!

I am sorry I didn't add the web sites, but here they are http://www.sciencedir... and http://publicknowledg.... There are also fire hazards because potential heater control loss. 3D prints take many hours to complete and the machine needs to be supervised and smoke alarms installed. I hope I am not being too negative but these are issues the library needs to be aware of. I am definitely in favor pf this project but these are concerns I have with my own 3D printer.

These are definitely an important part of the discussion for a community/library collaboration. Thanks! Very glad to have your input!

Interesting but somewhat unfocused. It might be helpful to have an agenda for these meetings with some specific objectives. I would suggest that the agenda for next couple of meetings be to do planning of what goals we want to achieve and how do we want to achieve them.

Does anyone have an opinion regarding any 3-d printer.
Here is one article I read: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01...
And here is a fax/copier/3-d printer:

I am so excited about the Launch Party at Foster Library! It went really well thanks to Ventura Area Makers!
I am focusing now on getting some equipment for the group. I have a question about 3-d printers. I have done a little research...3-d printers are available in so many different configurations. We have been looking at the Makerbot Replicator2. I have also been looked at the Bukobot 8v2, with single or dual extruders. The Bukabot is made in Southern California, so that is something to consider.

Paul has already done some in depth and well thought out consideration of Makerbot in particular. If dual extrusion is good, then I will work for that. Are there other features that are desirable?
Please email me or feel free to post here.
    Thanks!

The difference is minimal ($200.00). It is a kit, however.

They also have a portable model that caught my eye. It is $699.00. If the portable part means less configuring after jarring, that is great. Here is a link:http://deezmaker.com/...]
