Hi VLAB Network Members: Come join us at our Pitch Meeting tonight (Tues Nov 2) and share your ideas and panelist suggestions for our upcoming events.
And please invite anyone who you think might be able to contribute to our community. Events to be discussed are (chairs and co-chairs are listed in parentheses, event descriptions in italics):
REVIEW: Oct: H2O (Liz Crowell)
Nov 16, 2010: Education (Jay Johnson) Are we on the threshold of Class-less Education? Entrepreneurs are introducing technologies that provide a platform for social networks, user-focused learning, and real-time participation. Will this disruption occur from the bottom up or top down? While Venture Capitalists are betting on higher institutions, well-known philanthropists are looking at global K-12 education.
Jan 18, 2011: Predictive Analytics (Fred Stein) For decades, Predictive Analytics, (PA), has been the tool behind FICO scores, Automobile insurance ratings, and traditional advertisers. The new wave in PA focuses in individuals, their intentions, their preferences. Netflix led the way by predicting how well we will like movies. Now, combining Web Data Mining, Location, Identity, and Time of Day, start-ups offer new services to users and to advertisers. We showcase these entrepreneurs and challenge them.
Feb 15, 2011: Vision Computing (Waiming Mok) While computer image processing have been an important element for industry for years, rapid advances in computing, mobile, and businesses associated with the internet have driven the need for more computing intelligence to deal with the billions of photos, recorded and real-time videos. The applications are enormous, including security surveillance, augmented reality, to improved findability on the internet to changing the experiences of online shopping and more others. Many of these applications are driven by the new advances in algorithms for image recognition and computer learning. These advances could foster the growth of new startups with just a few experts in computer vision into the next major corporation. Have an idea or a company to include for any of these events? Interested in joining one of the planning teams? Have any feedback to make these events even better? Would love to hear from you at the meeting -- which will be held at:
