What we’re about
Club Tread Victoria is a hiking club that has been established in Victoria for over 30 years. We are a registered Society. We use Meetup to schedule our hikes and other events. Our day-hiking and walking events on the South Island run year round. In the winter months we also have snowshoeing and ski trips to Mt. Washington, and cross-country skiing closer to Victoria as weather permits. From April to October you can expect hiking, and cycling events in the Cowichan Valley, the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands along with weekend and multi-day trips further afield.

The club is open to new members.
You can become a guest member of Club Tread by joining on this Meetup site. A newcomer is permitted to join the Club and pay the annual fee after participating in at least one event. Newcomers also have the option to participate in up to 3 events without paying if they prefer to try more before joining. Once the membership fees are paid, they can participate in Paid-up Members only events.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME HIKES AND ACTIVITIES MAY BE LIMITED TO PAID UP MEMBERS OF CLUB TREAD. GUEST MEMBERS WHO HAVE ONLY SIGNED UP ON MEETUP ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE ACTIVITIES.

- Mt. Malcolm hikeSooke Hills Wilderness Park parking lot, Victoria, BC
This 2+ boot hike to the summit of Mt. Malcolm is approximately 10 km with 350 m cumulative elevation gain (see our hike rating system here: Day Hike Rating.pdf (clubtread.org)). About 4 hours of hiking at a fairly leisurely pace, not including lunch/rest breaks. There will be stops to view wildflowers. The summit provides outstanding views of the Sooke Hills and Juan de Fuca Strait. Although the trails to the foot of Mt. Malcolm are gentle, be prepared for a rough, steep trail to the summit.
If you have not done at minimum a 2+ boot hike with Club Tread, please contact me immediately after you RSVP so that we can determine if this hike is suitable for you. Bring lunch and snacks, water, and clothing appropriate for all weather conditions. Hiking footwear is required (boots with ankle support strongly recommended).
This hike may be cancelled in case of rain or strong winds. Please check here before leaving for the trailhead. Well behaved dogs are welcome, with pre-approval.
If you are interested in carpooling from Saanich municipal hall, please post a comment.
