Metchosin Meander (A "Smell the Roses" ride)

A Smell The Roses ride (we will not go faster than 20 kph) and will often be under that. Leaving Cafe Fantastico at 10 am on Nov 30th. Out to the village of Metchosen via Metchosin Road to either Broken Paddle, Sugar Shack or Mychosen Café (all within walking distance of each other). We will come back via Happy Valley Road and the Galloping Goose with perhaps the scenic route through Vic West. Prepare for any kind of weather, this ride will not be cancelled for rain, fog, or whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Open to anyone who can ride a bicycle, and if you need some encouragement for group riding, this one's for you!

• If this is your first ride with us, please print, sign and bring with you a copy of our waiver.

• Before attending a ride with Victoria Cycling Adventures I will complete the following two quizzes:  Cycling Safety Quiz and Procedures Quiz.

• By attending this ride, I declare that I have read, understood and agree to the contents of Victoria Cycling Adventures Waiver and Policies and Procedure

• For your safety we will break the ride into smaller groups while on busy roads. Please familiarize yourself with our Cycling procedures for large groups.

• In case of bad weather, we will reschedule this ride and substitute an Embrace The Rain Ride in its place. Hey - we live in a rain forest, it's gonna rain! Let's learn to enjoy it. This will be a short ride in town with a stop to warm up and dry out. You will be informed of any changes to the ride by email no later than one hour before the scheduled departure time.

Eight brave souls did not let the rain dampen our spirits! (pun intended). The new E&N Trail is not yet officially open, but the barrier at "unnamed lane" in Esquimalt is gone (yeah!) and the barrier at Mapleback is do-able, especially with some strong guys to help with lifting! And by luck, the CRD were out at Atkins Road taking pictures, and we are in some of them! Bonus! If any of you want to do another STR, please call me at[masked], even ONE person is fine, off we go on an adventure! Wednesday the 4th is predicted to be COLD and WINDY so there will not be an STR that day....thanks to all who participated today, fun had by all!

The rain did not stop us from enjoying our ride to Metchosin! Beautiful scenery and great group of people. Thank you for organizing it.

The "10% chance of rain" turned out to be pretty much 100% rain until the last hour but it was still a fun ride thanks to the company. I don't think anyone wished they hadn't come. We explored the new section of the E & N rail trail from near 4 Mile Pub to the crossing at Admirals and Colville (minus a section near the First Nations territory) and continued on it right to Esquimalt Road. The barriers are all removed except where you first join it at 4 Mile Pub where we had to lift our bikes over one. Great ride, great people and we proved once again that you can have a fun time riding even in the rain.

Sorry, I can't make this ride. The GVCC is hosting a workshop about Victoria's master bike plan on Saturday at 1pm.

This will be my first ride in Victoria since moving here from "sunny" southern California. I have never ridden in the rain!! What type of wet weather gear do you recommend and where can I buy it. I want to be comfortable and enjoy the ride. I am super excited to get back in the saddle!

Oh, BTW, waterproof gloves are good too, or bring a few pairs so you can swap the wet ones for dry ones, that'll work too.

It is surprising how little it actually rains here. We've had two or three rides a week for months. The one time of two that I did cancel due to the weather forecast it actually didn't even rain for the time we would have been on the ride. But, you will get caught out in rain eventually so as Norah says: waterproof jacket, pants, boots and gloves. If it is waterproof it is also going to be wind proof so will keep you warm even if it isn't raining.

Hi all, we're up to 28, yeah! This will likely be broken into THREE groups of 9 or so each. Each group will have a leader and sweep. Just to let you know, we are doing the route BACKWARDS from what is shown above, out on the Goose, Happy Valley Road to three cafes, all close together.... then back on Metchosin Road. It involves a big hill, which we will walk up, the view of Victoria from there is STUPENDOUS, with Mt. Baker in the background, its not to be missed! This is an STR ride, slow and easy.... the pace will be set by the slowest person, so if any of you want to "race ahead", that's ok, we'll meet at the cafe's (Broken Paddle, Sugar Shack and Mychosen Café). "bring your own" is ok too. See you Saturday! Norah M.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
