Mt. Douglas

Are you up for the challenge?

We'll take the Lochside trail past McKenzie and Borden, then turn right on the Blenkinsop Greenway route and follow Cedar Hill to Mt. Douglas Park. From there, we'll ride up Mt. Douglas via Churchill Road at individual paces.

As the trip down the mountain is not necessarily the best time to discover brake defects, please check brakes and replace if necessary. We'll do an "ABC Quick Check" prior to the ride as well.

One way map at We can figure out a return route on the day.

Before attending a ride with Victoria Cycling Adventures I will complete the general Cycling Safety Quiz and the Meetup Procedures Quiz.

By attending this ride, I declare that I have read, understood and agree to the contents of Victoria Cycling Adventures Waiver and Policies and Procedures.

For your safety we will break the ride into smaller groups while on busy roads. Please familiarize yourself with our Cycling procedures for large groups.

If this is your first ride with us, please print, sign and bring with you a copy of our waiver.

In case of bad weather, we will reschedule this ride and substitute an Embrace The Rain Ride in its place. Hey - we live in a rain forest, its gonna rain! Let's learn to enjoy it. This will be a short ride in town with a stop to warm up and dry out.

Great ride and a great route, thanks Brent for organizing/planning it. And thanks to the other 9 riders that attended. Nice to see so many show up for a ride up a mountain. Three of our group did it without stopping. The rest of us got there eventually with varying numbers of rest stops and a bit of pushing, There wasn't a view due to the low clouds. We took the scenic route home via the Royal Oak and Colquitz trails. I am officially impressed with the group walkie talkies. I was able to speak to Brent from the top of Mt. Doug when he was at the bottom and again from MEC when he was a couple of Km away. I'll get a second set for summer.

Any ideas on the timings for this ride?

Hi Wendy. It is only 10 Km to the top of Douglas, We should be able to do that in a couple of hours tops. We should be back at Fantastico by 1 pm at the latest, unless we dawdle.

This is a great challenge! Anyone who thinks they can't: yes you can. Walk the steep spots, ride the shallower grades between. Take breaks when you need to. No hurry, we'll get there. Great reminder about brakes. "ABC Quick Check" - I have no idea what this is! I won't google it, looking forward to Brent's demonstration/explanation.
