Just woke up with a migraine and this cold is not letting go so I'm not going to make it tonight. Have fun!

I'm a little confused...is this a subgroup (by invitation) or the regularly scheduled Monday Meetup? Thanks...

This is not the regularly scheduled meetup, but a subgroup. No regular meetup was set for the coming Monday.

Just to confirm what Hugh said; there is NO regular meetup this Monday, just a number of subgroup meetups. There will be a regular meetup *next* Monday, but I'm trying to finalise the agenda and location before posting.

    Hi everyone-
So I have sent my stuff via email, but will not be able to attend on this coming Monday due to an executive meeting that I can't get out of. Am not sure which subgroup I would be assigned to, so no pressure to be reading my opus yet. I am getting through the material that was sent to me, but as I am working two 12 hour night shifts, I might not be able to send feedback just yet. Thanks for your patience. Hugh, if you could let me know where I need to be for the next Monday, that would be awesome :-)

    Hi Jaqueline et al.
This is theorictically, a closed group. It is our first meeting of some SciFi/Fanasty writers. We share large chunks of our novels, read each person's work then edit them and annotate them with the suggestions to the best of our ability. Then we share the work and high five anyone who's critiques make the other person cry.

Just joking. We focus on the work and improving the writer's ability through improving the quality of work over time. It seems we have three pieces which means we have about an hour per piece. So each editor has about half an hour to discuss the parts of the pice then a short rebuttal by the author. If you want to sit in and see how it works and follow along, that's cool. If you want us to send you our work that's cool too. If you write SciF/F that's most cool. Send us your work and we'll see what we can do!

Thanks Robert...I was just getting confused between the regular Meetup and all the sub-groups breaking off so wasn't sure if I should have Monday on my calendar ;-) I don't write scif/f so I'll plan to see everyone next week :-)

Hi everyone- I may not be able to make it on Monday, as I forgot that I have an executive meeting (once a month on Mondays) that I have to be present for. We try to finish by 8:30, but I might not get there in time. Will definitely make the next one though :-)

I agree with Robert, we may have enough people to split off into two groups, possibly one sci-fi and one something else.

Well, this is the initial meeting of a SciFi/Fantasy group. Based on the responses, I would say we need another critique group. Currently we have five people each contributing a 5k to 8k piece. If you're OK with editing about 40k worth of work by Monday night please get in touch with us. Send us your piece and we'll send you ours. I will mention to the Kahunas that we may want to set up another critique group. We may have to go with several more based on the positive responses.

I can't make this one. How many pages/words do you typically submit?

You didn't scare me away, Hugh, don't worry! Why don't I upload my stuff tonight and if you've got room for me on Monday let me know. If not, that's fine.

      Good thinking!

For my own part I'm not overly concerned whether we have four or five contributors. It's the work load over time which we need to watch. Five people each offering up 8k words in the next week is a novella to edit. Done once a month, this isn't an issue. The first meeting will be a bit chaotic.

I think we need to share our emails asap and our work. I don't really need to edit 40k words Sunday night. Robert

As much extra work as it might be I'd love to have Amber Dawn included. For me, its essential that I get a female perspective and feedback on my female characters.

Have you heard from Nathan? Josie should be joining the group shortly. I don't mind a fifth person if no one else minds.

Amber, just so you know, at the moment we tentatively have a full set of four people already for this critique group even though they have not officially signed up online yet. We are all bringing portions of projects already written to the meeting as well as synopses. You are more than welcome to come but if all four of us attend there may not be enough time to get to your material.

Okay, so what I got from the gist of the discussion we had tonight was: we'll post what we have online ASAP and write a synopsis for the meeting next week. If anyone wants to put forward a place or different time, let me know. Also, if you want to get touch with me, PM me through this website and I will respond via email.
