Show and Tell

Write 500 words and bring it in to show the group. Sounds simple, right? But a little scary?

That's okay, we all feel that way, even seasoned professionals (or so I'm told). The purpose is not to show off or to judge others harshly but to get comfortable with sharing your work and hearing feedback.

So bring in a piece of your current project (or better yet write something new), read it to the group, get a little constructive criticism: what people liked, what worked and what didn't, suggestions ... and let's see what happens.

(Note for newcomers: We actually meet in the Atrium, next door, but access is through the coffee shop. If the coffee shop is closed then there is a security guard at the Atrium's Blanshard St entrance who will usually let you in.)

I've posted the rest of what I have written for chapter 3 in the files, from which I read an excerpt tonight. It's not complete, mind you- just a work in progress. :)

Thanks. And, if you feel up to it, you should try reading it aloud to the group.

We can just read the 500 words out without posting?

You don't have to post at all. Just bring your work to read to the group. The purpose of the meeting is help people become comfortable with being critiqued.

My current project is a little hard to explain, but here goes... it's a (sometimes funny) depiction of the challenges of raising autistic children, based on my family and I.

So, true-life anecdotes? Sounds ideal for a show and tell.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
