I am renting the Falls Condo on Douglas for a few months while we secure a house. They have a rec room that I'm thinking of using for our next meeting. Is that something that will work for everyone? Are we allowed to set up meetings in our residence?
Welcome to our little group. We typically meet on ever Monday evening, though we have had meetings on other nights. Our usual venue, the Atrium next to the Habit coffee shop, is not available to us on ‘stat’ days (we do not meet on those days).
The first Monday of each month is reserved for a Meet N Greet. Here we discuss group business and then play some word games to stretch our writing muscles.
The third Monday of each month is a critique night. Here we break into subgroups to give feedback and encouragement on our respective writing projects. When we can we typically schedule a general ‘hanging out’ session on the same night for those not currently in a critique subgroup.
On all the other Mondays we have a theme night, picked in advance from a list of topics people want to cover … topics include: dealing with writer’s block, how to write an erotic scene, dialogue, issues over POV, etc. We have not had a meetup about copyright issues yet, but we should (it’s a good one). We have had discussion about traditional verses self publishing. We have even had presentations by local self-publishing services, sharing their experiences of the book industry, editors’ expectations, etc.
