Bluewater Cruising Presentation - When Mars & Venus Go Cruising

Captain Tricia Birdsell progressed in a short period of time from being a novice sailor who could not take the boat away from the dock, to confidently crossing oceans. She became a single-handed sailor and racer, worked on boats for a year in the Caribbean and Eastern United States, obtained her USCG License, and eventually became a role model for women when she owned and operated Herizen™ Sailing for Women, Inc. for 17 years. In 2005 she was bitten by the cruising bug and sailed in the US, Bahamas and Caribbean until she recently returned to Vancouver Island in 2013.

Tricia’s presentation will focus on a chapter from her book, Boat and Sail Handling Manual for Women and Their Shipmates, which helps men and women understand each other so they can develop a harmonious environment where they are both confident and competent. She also draws on John Gray’s popular Men are from Mars, Woman are from Venus to support her "list” of Male & Female Aspects.

Plan to attend this entertaining and thought-provoking presentation and hear about the yin and yang of cruising, without stereotyping.

sorry, had to leave @ intermission....talk was very interesting, but would have been better to know that it follows the Cruiser's Mtg.(so started just before 8p.m.)then a 15 minute intermission made it too long and late....had a 40 minute drive back to Sidney area.

Sorry Cathy, as I said below, my first time posting for Bluewater. My note should have been clearer that doors open at 7, meeting starts at 7:30 & presenter starts approx. 8 pm. Entire evening ends at 9:30. Glad you could at least make it for the first half.

no worries Tricia, let me know if you do that talk again and I will make it for the second half!

I wish I could have attended especially now that I've moved from sole skipper of my own vessel to partnering with a far more salty dog than myself on OUR vessel. I definately see differences in our styles, values and risk taking limits :)
So far we haven't killed each other which I'm sure is a plus.

If you are interested you can buy my book so you have the info from the presentation. I'm sure I'm not supposed to be marketing on here but if you email me I can give you more details:)

Ok you guys I can't find the spot for the "Good to see you" note to go out!! Been trying to find it for a while ... lol Can anyone point me in the right direction!! For now I will just say it was good to see everyone (here)!!

If you go into Ahoy Sailors past events, Good to See You should be on the right of the page, listing all the people that attended from our group.

I was disappointed. The topic was totally unsuitable for Bluewater sailing members and was so stereo typical even though Tricia protested otherwise. I was looking forward to hearing about how she overcame her fears and went in to travel and run a successful school.

Edie (a communications expert) wrote the intro above from my info. We thought it was clear that it would be about men & women understanding each other & creating a harmonious environment but apparently it wasn't. If I do it again somewhere I will rewrite to be clearer. Thank you for your input.

And if you want to know about how I got over my fears (I used to be so shy as a kid I hid behind my mother's skirt) and built a successful life around sailing, we could get together for coffee. Maybe there is even a book in there. lol

Interesting topic: Enjoyed the first half then had to leave due to another commitment. Sorry we had to leave, but 7:00pm start time was posted, otherwise we would have changed our 2nd commitment):

Sorry! My first time posting for Bluewater. I agree, I should have said 7 pm doors open, 7:30 meeting starts, 8 pm presentation starts, 9:30 event ends....even though you would have missed the start of my presentation because they started me early. Again, my apologies.
