Concord & Carlisle Conservation Lands

This location is shown only to members

We will hike around 8 miles in the Estabrook and Carlisle Conservation areas starting from and ending at the Trial's Side Cafe.  This is a fairly flat course with few obstacles so we should be able to maintain a fast 2.5 to 3 mph pace.  We should be back at the cafe by around 11 am.

If we are hiking you must be prepared to use traction devices.

If there is snow and we are snow shoeing the distance will be shortened.

DIRECTIONS

The link from map will clearly define the cafe meeting place less than a 1/4 mile from Concord Center.  (The address is actually 97 Lowel Rd, but the mapquest marker comes out better with 98). If you are coming in from the rotary circling the Concord monument in the middle of a grassy area, take the Lowel Road exit next to the Colonial Inn. Then, in less than a 1/4 mile you will see a big sign on the left for the cafe right before a gas station.

Please do not park on the Lowel Road side of the cafe ,but in the back by turning left into Keyes Road right after the gas station and then, almost immediately after, left again into Millbrook Tarry  to park somewhere at the back of the cafe.

GENERAL

I will E mail all registered participants the day before to confirm the event and share my cell phone #.

Thank you all for this loop hike. Doug reported that his GPS gave 8.8 miles, while my rough drawing in of the route on the Topo map indicated 8.5 miles... I think the GPS was more accurate. So the pace worked out as a smidgeon under 3 mph for the 3 hrs we were hiking. Well done ! Thank you all for being on time. Good to see new faces.

Pleasant nine mile walk through suburban woods. The walk stimulated me to read up on the north bridge skirmish.

Could not have asked for a better workout this morning. The pace was perfect and fellow hikers were wonderful. Looking forward to next week's Blue Hill trip.

Prior to today, I had ridden the roads that circle the Concord &Carlisle Conservation Lands countless times (one of our favorite time trial loops is the Concord-Carlisle loop). I had never ventured onto the walking and riding (horse and mt biking) trails that wind through the woods and around the marshes and ponds of this little island of wilderness. If you have yet to discover this area for yourself, hesitate no longer. Like me, I am sure you will immediately say, "I will return...."
