Retired recent immigrant to Quincy who misses the Colorado high country and is interested in exploring this new locale. We summer in Nova Scotia, so I'm mainly interested in snowshoeing and hiking fall, winter, and spring. Went to college in MA.
Seems like a good fit: weekday -- avoids crowds and permits weekend time with grandkids; 2 mph uphill is a steady pace for me -- faster if only modest slopes, slower if scrambling on rocks; I prefer one-day excursions within 1-2 hours drive of Quincy; I usually hike/snowshoe alone or with family but welcome a chance to learn local lore from those with experience; I like a vigorous, steady pace, subject to terrain and conditions.
Just hiking and snowshoeing. I don't know what difference the lower altitude and higher humidity will have on me. My usual weekly outings in CO involved 2-4 hours on the trail; on snowshoes that might be 4-8 miles and 1500-2500 ft elevation gain -- somewhat more when hiking. However, I like to keep my heart rate below 150 and will pause if it gets above 160 (my resting heart rate at the moment is 43).
I prefer to avoid rush hour traffic and night driving. Probably Friday afternoon will be my least favorite time for an outing.
Fits me. Thanks, Jack, for setting this up.
