February meetup - Coding Dojo

This is a hack night - we don't have any presentations lined up. We'll form small groups, and work together to solve a problem using Vimscript. At the start of the night, we'll take suggestions for a problem to work on. Everyone vote, and we'll form groups to tackle the top problem(s).

Within each group, we'll work together with one person 'driving' (at the keyboard), while the others navigate. Everyone takes a turn at the keyboard, so we'll all get a chance to write some code. After 60-80 minutes of coding, each group will show and tell what they achieved.

Beer and food will be availble from 6:30, and we'll begin the Dojo at 7pm. Instead of the usual pizza feast, we're going to try offering a selection of healthier foodstuffs. We look forward to your feedback.

Really sorry I was unable to make this evening. Sorry for the no show Drew, I'll re-double my efforts before the next meetup.

Learnt quite a bit, Skimlinks make an excellent host too. It would have been nicer to have a few more people, but that's not really anyone's fault. More people should come to the Dojo's!

See if you can think of possible projects that we could hack on at this event. Feel free to post any suggestions here.

Here are a few ideas for problems we could tackle together:

    * Write a plugin to do word/character counts for the current buffer.
    * Write a syntax highlighter for BNF files. It’s a familiar syntax to almost everyone, but for some reason they don’t seem to have built-in highlighters…
    * For the current file, find the github repo it belongs to, and if one the remotes is github, find the number of stars for the project.

We can take suggestions on the night too.

We've done hands-on sessions before at VimLondon, but the Dojo format is new. This article goes into more details on how such an event works: http://otfrom.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/how-to-run-a-london-clojure-dojo-in-20ish-easy-steps/
