Links, Linkbuilding, PageRank, and Google's Reasonable Surfer

How do you get links to your web site?

Is it best to attract them with great content, request them from great sources, or a little of both? Exactly what is great content, and how can you tell whether a source is a great source? Are there other ways to get links, and visitors, to your pages?

What does Google's most recently granted patent about links say about how much weight it might give different links on a page? It presents a different way of thinking about links than many people, including internet marketers, have held in the past.

I'd like to find a venue that's closer to DC for this meetup. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. If you know someone who might be interested in attending, please let them know about this meetup.

Thanks.
