Special Demo Event with The VR Lab and NYU-ITP Tisch:

  • July 9 · 7:00 PM
  • ITP

As you may have seen, a new VR meetup group has recently been created called the VRLab. The organizer, Taylor Freeman, has established groups here and in San Francisco and is eager to serve as a liason between the east and west coast VR communities.  Towards this end The VR Lab has invited NYVR's participation in their event next month.

NYVR's goal is to provide the VR community of NY with the most opportunities possible to try out the latest and greatest VR technology and network with like minded developers and enthusiasts.  Therefore we are happy to co-host the event with The VR Lab at NYU-Tisch.  It will be a great way to increase our connections with developers on the west coast and create stronger links with the NYU community.

About The VR Lab: The VR Lab is a bi-coastal community building organization dedicated to fostering connections between virtual reality communities on the east and west coasts.

About NYU ITP:  ITP is a two-year graduate program located in the Tisch School of the Arts whose mission is to explore the imaginative use of communications technologies — how they might augment, improve, and bring delight and art into people's lives. Perhaps the best way to describe them is as a Center for the Recently Possible.

Please be advised that by attending any NY VR event and / or trying out any VR technology demo, you are indicating your agreement to the terms of the NY VR Waiver and Release of Liability Form, which can be found HERE.

Even though I'm not listed as attending I was there. Gave my $20 donation. The room I was in had a line of people waiting to try the Oculus Rift but only one of two (you said you would set up a demo but it never happened) units was available to try. Maybe future meetups will have a "how to" component rather than just a social event.

Had a great time. Lots of stuff to see. Found out that my glasses did not work well when kept them on with the VR equipment. When I took them off and tried, everything was out of focus. Need to look for option for people who are near sited and use the Rift. Any suggestions?

I generally have no problem with my glasses on but if necessary the rift comes with various lenses for varying eye conditions.
