Skipper Networking Meeting Invites New Skippers & Yachts from Outside VYC asWell

Boat-Owners please join us for the first in a series of VYC Skippers Meetings, at Portsmouth Yacht Club, Sunday October 6, at 6:00pm. This Skippers Only Forum is convened & co-hosted by Bob Janson & Maureen Tolman (leading the Salty & the Fresh Fleets of VYC).

Our ambition is to enliven & expand the VYC fleets & the club at large. First step: Make participation in VYC something that enlivens & expands your enjoyment of your boat.

Do you know boat owners outside VYC who've thought about joining? Were they tentative about how to get integrated into the club? Please encourage them to attend Skippers Meeting as your guest. (Most of us know a few.)

This is "Skipper Networking" but not an eating/drinking social-mixer. We are an information & decision forum, exclusively defined by priority concerns of boat-owners.

MO for our meetings will be to exercise the decision/execution style familiar to Skippers, ie:"Lets get it done. & Get it Done Now!" Consistent with this MO, we are not a committee, nor will we be serving as an advisory subcommittee.

On land, as on our boats, Skippers have sole authority & control over their boats & any role they might offer to VYC. Consistent with this standard, Skippers Network need report only to each other, & within VYC we will support fellow skippers in ways relevant & desirable to us.

First meeting will be for: asking questions about how the club operates; learning how VYC can better serve Skippers; & implementing improvements to better accomplish the goal of serving Skippers' & engaging more boats in VYC activites.

More details for this & future agendas will follow your RSVP. Ask questions, now or anytime. Please join us,

Bob ~Salt Fleet Capt
Maureen ~Fresh Fleet Capt

Greetings All~ The invite to Monday 11/4 Skippers Mtg, also has low response. Until it snows, it seems Fall chores keep us all pretty busy. Then we're soon upon Holidays

I propose a new R/S into 2014 &adding option of conf-call for more dispersed participants. If Jan/Feb invite gets low response, I'll try getting input w/mail, 1-to-1 mail, for a few input driven chng's

Some ideas= "No Brainer" to implement w/out more input than ours. But chng's are better designed &more powerfully voiced w/some added skippers

So, will make one more try, for a 2014 mtg response & see what goes, once Winter slows down the total volume of demands on everyone's time. Maybe a little more engagement then

    Sound agreeable?

I just want to say that some the skippers and "non-skippers" have been working very hard this year to get the VYC to be an organized club with positive direction. It has become much more than just an eating/drinking and social outing....One year ago we had no meetings other than social events, and at least now we have monthly meetings with structure set in place where members can speak up, be heard, vote for officers, etc.

Other than that I am glad to see the skippers getting together to make more progress on making the club even better.

Any of the dates except 11/18, 11/22 will work for me. Times are okay depending on where meeting is held. Working until 5 pm in York.

    Hello,
I have been involved with the VYC since near its inception. Its original concept is still a good one but the ratio of skippers to novice crew was hard to overcome. I like what I have been reading about setting expectations for those who crew and I would love to be involved in the discussion about how to move the VYC from that eating/drinking/social outing that it was becoming. I am unable to make this Sunday's meeting since daughter # 2 has just had a baby, however, I will make every effort to attend another meeting.
I would suggest a strictly skipper meeting to begin with to lay some groundwork and attack some of the questions raised by Maureen.
As to the timing of the next meeting, most of us are hyper-busy on the Fall week-ends decommissioning boat/house/etc. Mid-week better or into November when things slow down.
I am feeling optimistic and encouraged by what I am reading on about the VYC.
    Best, Mary Ellen Dunham

As stated, Bob & Joe are good for future mtg's but unavailable 10/6. So we total 3= Bob, Terry, me. Time to reschedule?

Sent 40 personal invites to VYC-Skipperss. Hoped for more turn-out (8= a legit start). No offense intended Terry, we are glad to have you. But we 3 alone are too few.

Do we know other skippers we can successfully encourage to come check out VYC this Sunday? Can we each roust 1-Skipper from outside, then use mtg to recruit? I know a few, but can't be sure they'd show

IF we can't confidently add Skippers whom we're fairly sure will attend, when do we call it off & reschedule? Would be nice to be free to make other Sunday plans.

I can wait & pull the plug Friday. But I think, if its much after Noon, we're just not being fair to ourselves, or each other.

IF rescheduling: What dates work for you? OCT 12, 13, 19, 20 are All Out for me.

For a standing time, "The First Saturday of the Month" is very good (no holiday conflicts but July)

    So how's Saturday, November, 2

We will not have PYC after Oct. 18th. for our meetings. They have no heat and shut it down. If people want to meet here in Raymond, I am open to that any time.
